HomeMy WebLinkAboutSpecial Events & Marketing CoordinatorPage 1 of 2 City of Georgetown JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Special Events & Marketing Coordinator Effective Date: 10/01/2012 FLSA Category: Exempt Revision Date: 06/15/2015 SUMMARY: Plans, conducts, supervises and monitors special events for the department. Plans, organizes, initiates and implements diverse marketing initiatives to ensure a professional image for the City’s Parks and Recreation Department. Manages promotional activities including, but not limited to, department, program and facility brochures, website content, graphic design, copy editing and general department related collateral materials. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: • Plans, conducts, supervises, and monitors Parks and Recreation special events. • Plans, organizes, and manages marketing programs, website information and related marketing activities for the department including utilization of the online advertising through the parks and recreation software. • Researches methodology, activities and analysis of marketing initiatives, goals, and programs. • Performs a full range of tasks associated with the creation and publication of departmental brochures. • Develops, publishes, coordinates and reviews all public service announcements, monthly reviews, advertisements and flyers. • Assists with other non-Park & Recreations special events. • Develops, tracks, and documents marketing programs; garners public input to aid in planning and program management. • Develops and implements goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for all marketing and public relations efforts for the department. • Conducts feasibility studies on special events and marketing efforts; analyzes the effectiveness of new and existing events; makes changes as necessary. • Promotes special events and Parks and Recreation programs to other agencies, corporations, businesses, and the news media. Seeks out sponsorships when appropriate. • Interact with the public and Parks and Recreation staff on a daily basis; helps facilitate the park permit process, answers inquires and assists patrons as needed. • Solicits sponsorship for special events; manages all operations and execution on the day of the event. • Provides quality customer service to city staff, the general public, and all other work contacts • Performs other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education, training and Experience Guidelines Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Parks and Recreation, Marketing, Business, or related field. Three years of full-time progressively responsible marketing or recreation experience performing functions consistent with the essential functions for this classification. OR Any combination of experience, education and/or training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Knowledge of: • Applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures regarding new marketing trends and marketing effectiveness. • Athletic and recreational activities and their current rules, regulations and procedures. • Planning, administration and operation of athletic and recreational programs and facilities. • Applicable safety rules and regulations to protect citizens and employees. • Research, analysis, and application techniques for grant programs and funding. Page 2 of 2 Skill in: • The creation of advertisements, brochures, press releases and marketing development techniques. • Adobe Creative Suite: InDesign, Illustrator & Photoshop • Using computer and related equipment, hardware and software. • Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing. • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. • Multi-tasking and working under pressure to meet deadlines. • Working independently • Website editing; proof reading • Reading memos, daily instructions, policies, brochures, and promotional material. • Performing mathematical calculations to determine expenses and revenues. • Analyzing statistical data; interpreting policies, procedures, and City ordinances. • Defining and resolving problems quickly and effectively. LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Valid Class C Texas driver’s license PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, crouching, bending, vision, hearing, talking, use of foot controls. May be subject to repetitive motion such as typing, data entry and vision to honor. Work is performed inside and/or outside, sometimes in extreme temperatures.
