HomeMy WebLinkAboutRecreation SupervisorPage 1 of 2 City of Georgetown JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Recreation Supervisor Effective Date: 10/01/2012 FLSA Category: Exempt Revision Date: 08/17/2015 SUMMARY: Under general supervision of the Recreation Superintendent, directs the recreation center, its operations and programs. Plans, organizes, implements, directs and evaluates a diverse range of recreation programs. Supervises youth/ adult athletics and supervises assigned staff in the operations of the Recreation Department. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: • Manages the personnel, equipment, facilities and finances assigned to the department, including hiring, ensuring training for, reviewing performance, scheduling of work, disciplinary action and dismissing staff members • Develop, implement and supervise recreation programs, recreation classes, and activities for all age groups and interests; ensures that programs are monitored and evaluated. • Ensures that daily, weekly and monthly attendance records are prepared/maintained for class meetings and drop-in facility use. • Coordinates schedules and evaluates athletic leagues for youth sports; promotes league participation with local schools. • Coordinates, schedules, and evaluates athletic leagues for adult sports. • Coordinates daily facility rentals for athletic fields. • Coordinates long term contracts with facility users, including field maintenance for game preparation, programming the use of lights, scoreboard access and coordinating concessions for leagues. • Supervise Recreation Center Staff; supervise contract instructors and babysitters; prepares contracts for contract employees. • Coordinate publication of Recreation Center events. • Coordinate and maintain scheduling of classrooms and facility use. • Assist with budget preparation and monitor Recreation Center budget and expenses • Assist with management of personnel, equipment, facility, and finances assigned to Recreation Center (including hiring, ensuring training for, reviewing performance of, disciplinary action of staff members). • Conduct program registration and assist with computer input, to include but not limited to cancellations, refunds and contract payroll; informs participants of class changes. • Supervise and administer membership and I.D. system for facility use in conjunction with Administrative Staff. • Catalog and maintain supplies and equipment for Recreation Center. Coordinate schedule of maintenance and repairs for building, courts, fitness and recreation equipment. • Ensures that monthly safety inspections are conducted and documented. Initiates corrective action as necessary. • Provides assistance to staff as back up as needed • Performs other duties as assigned or required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education, training and Experience Guidelines Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Recreation or related field. Five years of full-time experience in the development and implementation of recreation programs or recreation administration and supervision of leisure activities or programs in a recreation center facility. Two years of the required experience must have been in a supervisory capacity. OR Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities Page 2 of 2 Knowledge of: • (In-depth) recreation, athletics, and leisure activities programming related to recreation services and maintenance of recreation center facilities and equipment. • Recreation program administration and evaluation. • Supervisory and management practices and principles. • Medical first-aid procedures. • Recreation risk management principles. Skill in: • Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing. • Supervising and training employees. • Working well with adults and children. • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. • Reading journals and memos, manuals, and warning labels. • Writing letters, memos, reports, instructions, and promotional materials. • Performing basic mathematical calculations. • Budget management. • Analyzing statistical data. • Interpreting policies and procedures. • Interpreting City ordinances. LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Valid Class C Texas driver's license Must possess current Community First Aid, CPR and AED certifications.
