Job Title: Pool / Recreation Maintenance Specialist Effective Date: 10/01/2012 FLSA Category: Non-Exempt Revision Date: XX/XX/XXXX
SUMMARY:
Maintains City facilities to a high standard of safety and attractiveness by performing the following tasks: pool maintenance, backwashing, painting/cleaning/winterizing pools, adjusting pool chemicals, Recreation Center and Tennis
Center maintenance, general plumbing, special event setup and takedown. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of

performed by incumbents of this class; employees may be assigned duties which are not listed below; reasonable

subject to change at any time by the employer. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to,
the following:
• Maintains swimming pools, recreation center, tennis center, community center and challenge course.
• Performs routine repairs on equipment (preventative maintenance – pool equipment, weight equipment, court maintenance, and plumbing repairs)
• Provides assistance for special events and camps. (5k run, haunted hayride, fishing derby and Easter egg hunt)
• Provides safety and performance training for personnel.
• Performs other duties as may be assigned to assist with parks and recreation events, etc.
• Serves in extension of current duties as required for emergency management, particularly in the areas of shelter
management, debris removal, and recovery.
• Provides quality customer service to city staff, the general public, and all other work contacts
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, training and Experience Guidelines High school graduate or its equivalent and three to five years experience in pool maintenance or plumbing repairs.
Experience in facility maintenance and the ability to do all types of minor repairs, or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
Knowledge of:
• Knowledge of pool operations, pool chemicals, plumbing, electrical, carpentry and masonry procedures, safety procedures, large machinery operation and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and procedures.
• Pool operations and maintenance and small construction jobs. Skill in:
• Reads memos, instructions, professional development material, warning labels, and technical manuals.
• Writes schedules, work orders and reports to Recreation Superintendent.
• Calculates pool chemicals, calculations for repairs, figures for budgets and bids.
• Planning and organizing priorities and seasonal timing of maintenance practices.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Valid Texas Driver’s License, CPO/APO certification or NSPA Tech I or the ability to obtain certifications within 6 months. CPR and First Aid preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, crouching, bending, vision, hearing, talking, use of foot controls.
Exposure to weather extremes, especially the sun, exposed to pool chemicals.
