HomeMy WebLinkAboutAquatics SupervisorPage 1 of 2 City of Georgetown JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Aquatic Supervisor Effective Date: 10/01/2012 FLSA Category: Exempt Revision Date: 11/18/2014 SUMMARY: Under general supervision by Recreation Superintendent, directs all of the cities aquatic facilities, operations, and programs. Plans, organizes, implements, directs, and evaluates a diverse range of aquatic programs. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: • Manages personnel, equipment, facilities and finances assigned to the department, including hiring, ensuring training for, reviewing performance, scheduling of work, disciplinary action and dismissing staff members. • Directs the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies and priorities. • Develop, implement and supervise aquatic programs, classes and activities for all age groups and interest; ensures programs are monitored and evaluated. • Identifies opportunities for improving service delivery methods and procedures; identifies resource needs; reviews with appropriate staff; implements improvements. • Ensures daily weekly and monthly attendance records are prepares/maintained for class meetings and day visits for facility use or daily visits. • Supervise aquatic facility staff including aquatic specialist, aquatics maintenance specialist, lifeguards/swim instructors and contract instructors. • Ensures the mechanical operations and daily/seasonal maintenance of the aquatics facilities; maintains correct water quality and chemical balance ensuring that all pools are properly maintained and up to federal, state, and local codes. • Coordinate and maintain scheduling of aquatic facilities and classroom space. • Assist with budget preparation and monitor aquatic facilities budget and expenses. • Assist with management of personnel, equipment, facility, and finances assigned to aquatic facilities (including hiring, ensuring training for, reviewing performance of, disciplinary action of staff members.) • Monitor and assist program registration and computer input to include but not limited to cancellations refunds, transfers, and contract payroll; informs participants of class changes. • Supervises and administer facility booking in conjunction with administrative staff. • Purchase and maintain supplies and equipment for aquatic facilities. Supervise schedule of maintenance and repair for aquatic facilities and equipment. • Ensures that safety inspections are conducted and documented, initiates corrective action as necessary • Provides assistance to staff as backup as needed. • Performs other duties as assigned and required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education, training and Experience Guidelines Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Recreation, Leisure Studies or related field. Five years of full-time experience developing and implementing aquatic programs. Two years of the required experience must have been in a supervisory capacity. OR Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Knowledge of: • Aquatic and recreational activities and programming and their current rules, regulations and procedures. • The planning, administration and operation of aquatic and recreational programs and facilities. • Methods, tools and equipment used in water safety and medical aid operations. • Modern and complex principles and practices of pool facility operation and maintenance including Page 2 of 2 proper water chemistry levels; • Methods and techniques of swimming and lifeguard instruction. • Methods and techniques of C.P.R. and first aid. • Principles of municipal budget preparation and control. • Principles of supervision, training and performance evaluation. • Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes and regulations • Recreational Risk Management. • Customer service practices and techniques. • Occupational health and safety regulations and procedures. • City policies and procedures. Skill in: • Responding to emergency situations including safely rescuing drowning victims and administering CPR and First Aid. • Training people in lifesaving and safety methods and basic principles of pool operation. • Directing aquatics programs and the operation of City swimming pools. • Interpreting and explaining City aquatics program policies and procedures. • Oversee the operation and maintenance of City swimming pools. • Supervising and directing people. • Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing. • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. • Resolving customer complaints and concerns. • Reading memos, daily instructions and policies. • Preparing cash sheet and deposit based upon gate receipts. • Interpreting and applying aquatic policies. • Conflict resolution. LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Valid Class C Texas driver’s license or must have available alternate transportation Community CPR, First Aid and AED Certifications Certified Pool Operator or Aquatic Facility Operator required within first 6 months of hire American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification American Red Cross Lifeguarding American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Preferred PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, crouching, bending, vision, hearing, talking, use of foot controls. Works outside in the summer heat and humidity. Exposed to water, pool chemicals, slippery surfaces, climbing ladder into the guard chairs and crowds, mechanical and electrical systems related to pool facilities. Protective equipment suggested: sunscreen, SPF clothing and sunglasses. .
