HomeMy WebLinkAboutLibrary Assistant, SeniorPage 1 of 2 City of Georgetown JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Library Assistant, Senior Effective Date: FLSA Category: Non-exempt Revision Date: SUMMARY Assists with Library Operations, providing general assistance to patrons. Coordinates the Volunteer program to include scheduling and monitoring up to 100 volunteers. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following including any other duties as assigned: • Assists Library patrons at circulation desk with book returns and checkouts, payment of fines, and completing Library card application and hold request forms, location of materials, and information. • Manages and coordinates the Volunteer program and up to 100 volunteers • Participates in recruiting, training and scheduling Library volunteers • Empties book drop and book collection areas. • Organizes books into their Dewey number and shelves them properly. • Maintains the order and cleanliness of Library areas and holdings. • Opens and prepares Library common areas, computers, office equipment and other search tools. • Logs into database statistics of patrons, reference questions and Library usage statistics. • Answers the telephone and refers calls to appropriate section. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education, training and Experience Guidelines High school diploma or equivalent plus two (2) years of experience related to customer service or library services. OR Any equivalent combination of related experience or education. Knowledge of: • Library administration, organization, and operation. • Library reference resources. • Customer service methods and techniques • Cash Handling procedures • Basic leadership and training techniques Skill in: • Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing. • Resolving customer complaints and concerns. • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. • Working with adults and children. • Reading reports, memoranda, periodicals, journals, etc. • Filling out forms; taking messages. • Performing basic math calculations. • Responding to request for information. • Using the computer and various software programs. • Training volunteers and staff LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS N/A Page 2 of 2 PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, crouching, bending, vision, hearing, talking, use of foot controls.
