HomeMy WebLinkAboutLibrary Assistant - Children's ServicesPage 1 of 2 City of Georgetown JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Library Assistant – Children’s Services Effective Date: 10/01/2012 FLSA Category: Non-exempt Revision Date: 04/01/2014 SUMMARY: Works with Senior Librarian-Children’s Services to ensure comprehensive and constant coverage of the children’s services area. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: • Perform all duties for weekly storytimes. • Assists in planning and implementing Library programs for children. • Work at service desks throughout the Library. • Supervise arts and crafts projects. • Assist Library patrons at service desk with book returns and checkouts, payment of fines, and completing Library card application and hold request forms. • Assist patrons in locating materials and information, both adults and children. • Maintain the order and cleanliness of Library areas and holdings. • Perform other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education, training and Experience Guidelines High school diploma or equivalent. Six months of full-time related experience. OR Any equivalent combination of experience, education and/or Training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Knowledge of: • Library administration, organization, and operation. • Library reference resources. • Customer service methods and techniques. • Computer library resources. • Dewey Decimal classification in order to shelve and locate books. Skill in: • Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing. • Resolving customer complaints and concerns. • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. • Working with adults and children. • Reading reports, memoranda, periodicals, journals, etc. • Filling out forms; taking messages. • Performing basic math calculations. • Responding to request for information. • Using the computer and various software programs.
