HomeMy WebLinkAboutAssistant Library Services DirectorPage 1 of 2 City of Georgetown JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Assistant Library Services Director Effective Date: 10/01/2012 FLSA Category: Exempt Revision Date: 04/01/2014 SUMMARY: Under general direction of the Library Director, oversees the administration and supervision of the Public Services unit of the Library Department. Supervises assigned staff. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: • Supervises, coordinates, and schedules the staff and functions of the Public Services unit. • Maintains the Library’s public computer network and acts as first contact with the City’s Information Technology department. • Leads in the formulation of Public Service unit goals and objectives. • Assists in the planning and implementation of changes in organization methods and procedures for improvement in efficiency and service to the public, as determined by citizen needs and interests. • Ensure compliance with library policies. • Works with the Library Director and other staff to develop long-range and strategic plans for the Library System. • Conducts staff meetings and staff training sessions. • Coordinates with Facilities Maintenance Department concerning required maintenance for the library facility • Performs collection maintenance including inventory and weeding: orders and reviews materials to be ordered. • Participates in the budget development process; monitor the approved budget. • Serves on City committees as assigned; in absence of Director, represents the Library and serves as City liaison to the Friends of the Library and other groups. • Assists Library Director in writing and enforcing library policies. • Performs other support duties as assigned. • Supervises volunteers and interns. • Performs other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education, training and Experience Guidelines Master's degree from an American Library Association accredited college or university with major coursework in Library and Information Science. Six years of progressively responsible experience as a professional librarian. Three years of the required experience must have been in a lead or supervisory capacity. OR Equivalent combination of experience and education equivalent to an MLS and provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Knowledge of: • Library management and administration, organization, and operations. • Library classification and reference systems. • Methods, policies, practices, principles, and procedures of professional library work. • City policies and procedures. • Emerging library technologies. • Library information technology. • Federal, state, and City rules and procedures. • Supervisory, management, and leadership principles and practices. • Budget developing and financial procedure and practice. • Library strategic planning Page 2 of 2 Skill in: • Designing, directing, coordinating, planning and administering a city library program. • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. • Using computers and related equipment, hardware and software. • Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing. • Planning and implementing departmental procedures and objectives. • Effectively supervising and delegating duties to assigned staff. • Resolving customer complaints and concerns. • Evaluating, interpreting, and analyzing day-to-day operations; formulating effective, pro-active solutions to identified problems. • Interacting with people of all ages and backgrounds.
