HomeMy WebLinkAboutTourismCVB ManagerPage 1 of 2 City of Georgetown JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Tourism / CVB Manager Effective Date: 10/01/2012 FLSA Category: Exempt Revision Date: 05/08/2014 SUMMARY: Plans, directs and oversees the City’s tourism activities and operations. In consultation with the Georgetown Convention & Visitors Bureau Board, position develops and implements marketing programs, promotional projects, advertising campaigns, and web content for the purpose of generating tourist traffic for the City of Georgetown ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: • Develops, plans, and implements CVB goals and objectives. • Coordinates the development of and revisions to the City’s comprehensive tourism strategies. • Develops comprehensive marketing plan and advertising campaigns. • Selects and develops all ads, brochures and promotional materials designed to enhance the City’s image as a destination for corporate meetings, business and leisure travel, sporting events, tours, etc. • Selects, supervises, and develops staff through review of performance data, conferences, counseling, training and evaluating of performance. • Coordinates the Red Poppy Festival to include: developing budget, organizing event logistics, selection of entertainment, soliciting sponsorships, selecting vendors, managing volunteers, and developing marketing strategies. • Serves a staff liaison to the CVB Board. • Coordinates special events/projects related to tourism and the CVB. • Prepares and monitor annual program budget; maintains financial records and reports through the fiscal year. • Makes presentations to City Council and local clubs and organizations about the activities and services of the City’s CVB. • Serves as City’s liaison to special event coordinators. • Tracks and reports on tourism activities to the Georgetown Convention & Visitors Bureau Board and city officials. • Works with meeting planners, tour leaders and special event promoters to facilitate group visits to Georgetown. • Prepares conference bids and presentations as appropriate. • Facilitates and assists CVB board and staff in coordination of promotional events and activities. • Partners with public and private sector organizations to facilitate the promotion of tourism through the management of the cooperative advertising program with the goal of improving the quality and excitement of events to attract tourists to the city and to address all associated challenges and concerns. • Researches awards and grants and prepares applications; manages grants or awards when received. • Makes presentations and interviews with, media personnel, and represents the program and community. • Performs other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education, training and Experience Guidelines Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in marketing, communications, public relations or related field. Five years of progressively responsible work experience convention, visitor, hospitality, or tourism industries. Two years of the required experience must have been in a lead or supervisory capacity. One additional year of the required experience may be substituted for 1 year (30 semester hours) of the required education with a maximum substitution of 4 years. Page 2 of 2 Knowledge of: • Tax Code 351 – Hotel Occupancy Tax Revenue Usage • Principles and practices of advertising • Project management practices • Supervisory and leadership principles and practices Skill in: • Working festivals and events and conducting outdoor tours. • Completing grant applications, preparing presentations and bids, composing correspondence to property owners and sponsors, etc. • Completing state reports showing investments in Main Street district, calculating revenue raised in festivals, preparing budgets, etc. • Reading technical instructions for state reports, historical designation and grant applications, etc. • Safely operating an automobile.
