A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITT
OF GEORGETOWNt TEXAS, STATING THE CITY'S
INTENT TO PROVIDE FUNDING FOR THE LOCAL SHARE
OF PURCHASING THE ABANDONED MKT RAILROAD
AIGHT-OF-WAY IF FEDERAL MATCHING FUNDS ARE
OBTAINED4
WHEREAS, in the City Council Resolution Number 85-18 the
City resolved to support and encourage a transit and
transportation corridor along the alignment of the abandoned
Missouri -Kansas -Texas railroad right-of-way; and
WHEREAS, the City has entered into an Intergovernmental
Agreement with a coalition of local public entities, to explore
the feasibility of purchasing for transportation purposes the
abandoned right-of-way known as the MKT Railroad Right -of -Way
from Georgetown to Austin; and
WHEREAS, this purchase represents an important step in the
tevelopment of a multi -modal transportation facilityt an element
of which is that certain proposed six -lane expressway/transit
project known locally as MoKan Roadway; and
WHEREAS, the establishment of the MoKan Transportation
Corridor will facilitate the long term economic growth and
development of the community of Georgetown; and
WHEREAS, the State Department of Highways and Public
Transportation is seeking funding from the Urban Mass
Transportation Administration to pay 75 percent of the cost of
purchasing the abandoned MKT Railroadright-of-way, and will hold
title to the corridor if federal funds are used in the purchase.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF GEORGETOWN, that:
1) The City of Georgetown will provide funding for the
City's reasonable proportionate local share of the cost of
purchasing the Abandoned MKT Railroad right-of-way within
Georgetown's corporate limits and owned, in whole or in part, by
the MKT Railroad, its heirs, assigns. and successors which is
shown on Exhibit A attached to this Resolution subject to the
following conditions:
A) The review, approval, and execution of a contract t*
purchase the MKT right-of-way which clearly indicates thq
amount of the local share to be paid by Georgetown.
B) The City's local share is funded by the securing of UMTA
Section 3 discretionary funding in the amount of no less
than 75 percent of the City's local share of the cost of the
acquisition.
C) The value of that portion of abandoned railroad
right-of-way which the City of Georgetown owns, and which
the City chooses to include in the transitway project, is
credited towards the City's proportionate local share.
2) The funds necessary to achieve Item 1 above will be
submitted to be included in the 1988-89 Annual Budget for the
City.
3) upon the completion of items 1 and 2 above it is th'i
intent of the City to transfer title of any property purchase,
under the terms of the Intergovernmental Agreement date
September 22, 1987,;�to the Texas State Department of Highways ale
Public Transportation.
