HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 880123KESOLUTION -990 la3' i 6 WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Georgetown finds I that parking availability in the downtown area is insufficient to accommodate the parking needs of the citizens of the community and visitors to the City; and WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the acquisition of property for parking is an advisable municipal purpose to accommodate the parking needs of those persons visiting, working or doing business in the downtown area; and WHEREAS, there exists private property near the downtown area that can accommodate those parking needs; and WHEREAS, the City of Georgetown desires to purchase those private properties for the use as a parking facility and necessary green space so as to make the parking lot aesthetically attractive. In the event a purchase is not possible, the City of Georgetown desires to acquire those properties, in fee simple, through statutory eminent domain proceedings; NOW THEREFORE, That the City Staff and City Attorney are directed to proceALA with the acquisition of the properties described below 4#1 accomplish the purposes of this resolution. These properties ar- • -d ocated and described as follows: 1. 107 E. Ninth Street & Northwest corner of Church and E. 9th Street (Lots 5 & 8, Blk 52, City Addition.) 2. 815 Main Street (North two thirds of Lot 6, Blk 52, City Addition) If the properties may be acquired through reasonable negotiations with the owners, then the Mayor is authorised to execute deeds on behalf of the City of Georgetown as grantee for the above properties. In the event that purchase of the properties is not accomplished through reasonable negotiations, then the City Attorney is directed to proceed with condemnation proceedings for the purpose of acquisition of the properties for parking facilities with appropriate green space for aesthetic purposes.
