LifeguardteamsfromtheCityofGeorgetowntookthetoptwospotsin thestatelifeguardcompetitionattheSummerGamesofTexasinAugust. TeamDauntlesstookfirstplaceandTeamReGuardlesswonsecondplace. TeamFourBraveryfromGeorgetownalsoqualifiedasoneof12teamsto competeinthestatetournament.Thelifeguardswerehonoredatthe August12CityCouncilmeeting. Themaintenanceandrepairof Georgetowncitystreetsisa continualeffort.Everythreeyears, aspecialvehicletravelscitystreets andscoresthequalityoftheroad- waysurface.Onanannualbasis, theCityTransportationDivision usesthosescorestoidentifystreets toberesurfacedorreconstructed. Crackseal Tarisinjectedintocracksinroad- ways,preventingfurtherdamage frommoistureseepingintothe roadbase.Costperlanemile: $500-$1,500 Sealant Asealantisappliedtothesurfaceof theroadway,reducingdamagefrom UVradiationandvehicletraffic. Costperlanemile:$6,700 Chipseal Alayerofemulsionisappliedtothe roadwayfollowedbyalayerof small-sizedgravel.Asealantcanbe appliedasafinallayertoimprove thequalityandlifeoftheroadsur- face.Costperlanemile:$17,600 Asphaltoverlay Anewlayerofasphaltisappliedto theroadway.Theroadisusually milledfirsttoensurethealignment oftheedgeoftheroadsurfacewith thecurb.Costperlanemile: $84,500 Rehabilitation Theexistingpavementandbase layersofgravelareremovedin ordertocompletelyreconstructa road.Newcurbing,drainagefea- tures,baselayers,andasphaltare constructed.
