HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 910255RESOLUTION NO.'C-31(07xZ WHEREAS, the primary goal of the Texas Youth Risk Behavior Prevention Project (TYRBPP) is the promotion of comprehensive school health education and prevention of risk- taking behaviors exhibited by Texas youth; and WHEREAS, the University of Texas at Austin, College of Education - Department of Kinesiology & Health Education, Southwestern University, the Texas Center for Comprehensive School Health, the Texas Association of School Administrators/Texas Comprehensive School Health Initiative and the Georgetown I.S.D. propose to establish a partnership to provide staff development and training in comprehensive school health education for school teachers, administrators, counselors, and other school personnel, and WHEREAS, researchers from the University of Texas and Southwestern University with expertise in health education, teacher training, and evaluation, as well as the professional staffs of the Texas Center for Comprehensive School Health and the Texas Comprehensive School Health Initiative (a state coalition headquartered at TASA) will deliver project activities to the Georgetown Independent School District; and WHEREAS, the primary outcomes for the TYRBPP include- 1) provision of staff development/training for Georgetown I.S.D * school teachers, administrators ' and other school education: 2'� leadershi% t ]Qr Georptown I.S.12i, professional staff to be held in conjunction with the annual Texas ALL WELL School Health Promotion Conference; 3) provision of training for Georgetown I.S.D. school teachers, administrators, and other school personnel on involvement of the family and community in prevention of drug use and other youth risk behavior; and 4) material development to include CSHE monographs, training materials, workshop resource packet, and audiovisual kit such as a slide/tape presentation- and P WHEREAS, the Georgetown I.S.D. professional staff will be provided funding to send a team to the Texas ALL WELL School Health Promotion Conference, and evaluation of project activities will be ongoing: and WHEREAS, the City Council has found that this action implements Education Policy 1, Governmental Affairs Policy 1, and Health and Human Services Policy I of the Century Plan - Resolution No. ((c"as 5� to Support GISD & Texas Youth Risk Behavior Prevention Project Page 1 of 2 Policy Plan Element, and is not found to be inconsistent or in conflict with any other Century Plan Policies, as required by Section 2.03 of the Administrative Chapter of the Policy Plan; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, THAT: SECTION 1 The facts and recitations contained in the preamble of this resolution are hereby found an't declared to be true and correct, and are incorporated by reference herein and expressly made a part hereof, as if copied verbatim. The Mayor is hereby authorized to sign, on behalf of the City of Georgetown, and the ,'-",itv Secretary to attest this resolution and send a letter supporting the participation of oraetown Independent School District in the TYRBPP.
