WHEREAS, the Tax Code gives voters the option of imposing additional sales and use
taxes to help finance the community's economic development efforts; and
WHEREAS, the Tax Code gives voters the option of imposing additional sales and use
taxes in exchange for reducing the effective property tax rate; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Georgetown finds that the City of
Georgetown qualifies to vote on each of these measures in accordance with the restrictions
outlined within the tax code-,
NOW, THEREFORE, -BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, THAT:
SECIION 1
The facts and recitations contained in the preamble of this resolution are hereby found and
declared to be true and correct, and are incorporated by reference herein and expressly made a
part hereof, as if copied verbatim.
SECTION 2
The City Council has found that this action implements Economic Development Policy 1 of the
Century Plan - Policy Plan Element, which states- "The City will encourage diversified growth
broaden the tax base and minimize the imnact
of economic fluctuations"; and has found that this action is not inconsistent or 'in conflict with
any other Century Plan Policies, as required by Section 2.03 of the Administrative Chapter of
the Policy Plan;
SECTION 3
There shall be a special election on Saturday, January 16, 1993, to consider the following two
separate measures:

The adoption of R sales and use tax within the city, jbr the
promotion and development of new and expanded business
enterptises at the rate of one-quarter of one percent
The adoption of an additional sales and use tax within the city at
the rate of one-half of one percent to be used to reduce the

Early voting by personal appearance shall take place at City Hall, 609 Main St.
Election day voting shall take place at Polling Place "A", Georgetown Public Library, 808
Martin Luther King Blvd. for voters residing in City single member districts 6, and
and at Polling Place "B", Georgetown Independent School District Administration Building, 603
Lakeway Drive, for voters residing in City Single members districts 4 and 5.
SECTION 5
Voting shall be conducted with paper ballots prepared in conformity with the Texas Election
Code.

The following persons are hereby appointed officers for said electiol
In polling place "A" Maria A. Herrera will serve as Presiding Judge, and Mary Giescke will
preside as Alternate Presiding Judge, and the clerks for the election will be appointed in a
number not to exceed five (5) clerks.
In polling place "B" Ken Jones will serve as Presiding Judge, and Kathleen Leedy will serve as
Alternate Presiding Judge, and the clerks for the election will be appointed in a number not to
exceed five (5) clerks.
Election officials shall be compensated at a rate of $5.00 per hour, and officials who deliver the
ballots and election supplies shall be compensated an addition flat fee of $25.00 over the hourly
rate for their service.

Stephanie Crenshaw, Marianne Landers Banks and Bob Hart are hereby appointed deputy early
voting clerks. The early voting for the above -designated election will be held at City Hall, 609
Main Street, Georgetown, Texas, and will remain open during normal business hours (8:00 am.
to 5:00 p.m.) each day specified for early voting, which is not a Saturday, a Sunday, or an
official state holiday,
Debeginning on the 20th day preceding the date of the election, which is
cemb 2�8, 199 d 2, ancontinuing through the 4th day preceding the date of the election, which
is JanZTV, 1993. Early voting shall also be conducted on Saturday, January 9th, 1993, from
9-00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
All early voting shall be canvassed by an Early Voting Ballot Board. Maria Herrera shall serve
as Presiding Judge, Mary Giescke as Alternate Presiding Judge.

The City Secretary shall conduct an unofficial tabulation of results after the closing of the polls.
The official canvass and tabulation of the results of the election shall be conducted by the City
Council at a Special Session on January 19, 1993.
