Seventhand WHEREAS, from that location the Georgetown Red Poppy spread to bloom in an earlier time wild and free along our roadways, riverbanks and parks and in cultivated areas of residents yards; .; WHEREAS, for the past several years the Georgetown Red Poppy has been making a comeback both in public appreciation • areas of growth; and WHEREAS, by House Concurrent Resolution the State of Texas has declared Georgetown the "Red Poppy Capitalo and in that• t' - _ _I poppies blanketing Georgetown can rival even the revered bluebonnets"; and WHEREAS, for two years the Convention and Visitors' Bureau has sponsored a "Red Poppy Trail" through Georgetown; an WHEREAS, • played • trtanin the r spreading, research, and protection of red poppies in Georgetown by i t, significant role turning the rocky slopes in the area around Rock and Third Streets into a riot of spring time brilliant red poppy blooms which has been a highlight of the Annual Red Poppy Trail, r • - -• poppies - • rt !r• one of major- ,s in the city where they grow free and wild, providing poppy plants to the City's Utility Office to splash the Historic Square with additional beauty, providing millions of locally collected red poppy seeds to the City and researchers at Southwestern x Resolution No.1 11a1 Page 1 of 2 creating a quilted and embroidered masterpiece which spotlights Georgetown as the "Red Poppy Capital of Texas" and which is displayed in the City's Utility Office; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, THAT- I SECTION 1. The facts and recitations contained in the preamble of this resolution are hereby found and declared to be true and correct, and are incorporated by reference herein and expressly made a part hereof, as if copied verbatim. The City Council hereby finds that this msn- lution reco nizes im-olementation o -f ma_nv-policies (—Economic Development Environmental and Resource Conservation, Growth and Physical Development, Historic Preservation and Urban Design and Recreation and Cultural Affairs) of the Century Plan - Policy Plan Element; and further finds that the adoption of this resolution is not inconsistent or in conflict with any other Century Plan Policies, as required by Section 2.03 of the Administrative Chapter of the Policy P17--t- SECTION 2. Mrs. Marjorie Wininger, longtime resident of Georgetown, is hereby saluted and honored for her substantial contributions to the spreading and propagation of the Georgetown Red Poppy, and more importantly for vividly demonstrating that Georgetown is indeed a uniquely wonderful place to live and work because of its special, caring people. SECTION 3. This resolution shall be effective immediately upon adoption. RESOLVED this day of 1992.
