Comments Plan B, either the original or revised map, appears to be the fairest
of the choices for the residents off Leander Road. Being separated
from the remainder of the district by the South San Gabriel and Hwy
29 is far from ideal, but the intention of gerrymandering is
somewhat less obvious. It bodes the end of local representation for
our neighborhood.

Comments Very opposed to the creative engineering that has gone into
lumping the very SOUTH west side of Georgetown with the very
NORTH section. A district member from Sun City will never
represent the interests of the people who live off Leander Road.

Comments After reviewing the redistricting proposals and attending a briefing
by the Mayor and our Councilman, I urge the Council members to
support Plan B or Plan B Revised. Plan A flies in the face of the
guidelines adopted by the Council prior to the start of the
redistricting process. To combine geographical areas of the city that
are non-contiguous and are 10 miles apart into one district
disrespects the interests of and the representational rights of the
residents living in those areas. Let's use common sense, in addition
to considering the legal implications, in making this decision which
will have long term impact for the city. I appreciate your
consideration and the work you do on our behalf.

Comments Folks,
I have resided in District 3, before it was District 3.
We arrived in Georgetown 1984, and while the demographics of
Georgetown have certainly changed in 26 years, the since of
community in a district, such as where I live, has not. I support Plan
B or Revised Plan B. We in District 3 do not share demographics with
Sun City Folks.
As an example,,,children, ethnic diversity, age diversity, and income
divesity. So please consider my comments and adopt Plan B or
revised Plan B.
Thank you for reading, and good luck tomorrow...Barton Levy

Comments I would like you to consider Plan B or Revised Plan B. I have been in
Georgetown in this same district for over 20 years. I have voted in
City Elections and supported my City Council members. It is
important that the Council members represent the people of their
district. The people in our district and those in Sun City most likely
do not share a large portion of the same concerns and opinions. A
district divided will not succeed for either group. Support for
various issues would be weak. We all deserve a unified voice and
therefore each district needs to have similar demographics, etc. The
Council member needs to represent the district in which they
live...Sun City and our district cannot nor should it be represented
by 1 individual. Our voices will be diluted!

We have nothing in common with Sun City residents who are elitist

completely ignore our neighborhoods to serve their own selfish

Comments I am in favor of Plan B revised. I have read print info and listened to
public comments made at the 7/14/11 hearing and a meeting held
at the SC Ballroom on 7/15/11. The council decision should not be
based on the argument that came from both those against either
Plan A or B that "they don't want Sun City ALIGNED WITH THEM
BECAUSE 80% of Sun City people vote. It should be based on what is
best for G'town's future.

Comments Georgetown Village may not have been adversely affected by the
current council district make-ups, but going forward ten years, there
will be important issues that will demand our voices to be heard.
Sun Citians are very beneficial and very much a big part of what
Georgetown is today, but with frozen property tax rates and largely
different interests, our needs and goals are largely quite different.
The current and past Dist. 4 City Council members, Honorables
Noble, Carr, and Sattler have always listened to any question or
concern that I have voiced, but going forward, I would like to be
represented with a more similar community of interest.
Based on the parameters that determine how the districts are
required to be drawn with regard to minority representation,
current district lines, populations, and geography, the perfect plan
has not been presented, or may not be attainable now, but Plan A
revised seems to come closest to the greater benefit for all at this
time.

Comments Proposed District A and District A revised violate several key criteria
for drawing council districts. In particular, these proposed districts
violate the
• the maintenance of communities of interest,
• establishment of districts that are compact and contiguous, and
• clearly identifiable boundaries
A district that is split with a meaningful portion of Sun City is likely
to be dominated by Sun City. If the question is whether the Village
or current council district 3 are to be joined with Sun City, there is
no question that the Village would far better comport with the
criteria council has specified for drawing districts.
The Village shares much more in common with Sun City than does
current council district 3. If a district combining the Village with Sun
City were created and if that district's council representative was a
resident of Sun City, that representative would easily and naturally
be able to represent the entire district, including the Village. This is
because the Village and Sun City share a part of town. They also
share a common arterial roadway and other transportation
infrastructure and needs, common shopping venues, and nearby
parks and recreational facilities.
District 3 is struggling to have the Southwest Bypass constructed, a
roadway few residents of Sun City are likely to know about, much
less to be concerned with. Sun City is near the schools that children
in the Village attend; schools in district 3 are on the other end of
town. Both the Village and Sun City have robust community
associations that protect their neighborhoods and for which their
residents pay; there is no such coverage or protection in most of
district 3.
Plan A and A revised would join Sierra Vista with Sun City. Sierra
Vista is an older neighborhood featuring mixed housing, much of it
occupied by families with children. Some of these families are
renters and some have mortgages. Few have frozen property taxes
and many struggle to make their monthly mortgage or rent
payment. Sierra Vista straddles the southern border of Georgetown.
At the other end of Plan A and A revised is Sun City, a beautiful
retirement community located near the opposite end of town.
As the crow flies, Luther Drive in Sierra Vista, at the south end of
district 3, is eight miles from Palmetto Court in Sun City, located at
the other end of Plan A. That's as the crow flies. Driving from Luther
Drive to Palmetto Court is 11 miles and 20 minutes.
Georgetown is still small enough for its council districts to be
described by our neighborhoods: Berry Creek, Old Town, Churchill
Farms, Parkview Estates. The fact that we all know and recognize
each of those neighborhoods speaks to Georgetown's charming,
small-town quality.
A council district that joins Sierra Vista with Sun City, connected by a
narrow strip of road that contains no residential property, does not
comply with the redistricting criteria: Plan A and Plan A revised do
not maintain communities of interest, they are neither compact nor
contiguous, and their boundaries are not clearly identifiable.
The overarching goal of redistricting ought to be to provide equal
representation for every resident. Plan A and Plan A revised fall far
short of this objective. I urge the council to vote to approve Plan B
or Plan B revised.

Comments I would like to express my concern and opposition to the Plan A -
revised redistricting map for the Georgetown council member
districts. the distance that would be represented by this council
member would be significantly greater than any other council
member's district (approximately 13 miles and 30 minutes between
Caddo Lake Train and River Down according to Google Maps.) In
addition, the geographic, demographic, and economic variability
within this planned boundary is too different to be represented by
the same council member. This boundary will lead to election of a
council member that must serve a district with boundaries that are
too far apart, as well as citizens that have needs that are too far
apart.
Please vote for PLAN B!
Thank you

Comments Dear Council Members,
I support Plan B, or Plan B revised. I hope that the Council will not
choose Plan A, as it makes Precinct 3 strung geographically over a
large area. Citizens in these various geographic areas would be
expected to have different issues, needs, and concerns. Therefore,
having one person represent all of their interests does not seem
reasonable.
Thank you very much for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Camarie Perry

Comments If this has anything to do with the lines for what school a child
should attend then I have something to say. My son was a student
at Forbes Middle School and is now being told that he has to go to
Tippit Middle School because we moved. Now that makes no sense
at all. Forbes is only 4 miles away from our house and Tippit is 8
miles away from our house and completely across town. I think that
something needs to be done about this situation. Yall were
complaining about the buses going over budget in fuel costs in yet
yall want to bus a child that far across town when he can go to a
school that is alot closer. In my opinion, that is just flat out stupid
and unnecessary.

Comments Please strongly consider the Revised Plan A. I believe it would not
be in the best interest for my subdivision, Georgetown Village, to be
lumped in with Sun City for City Council representation. As a
general rule, less than 10% vote in City Council elections, but, if I am
not mistaken, Sun City turnout is well above 50%. This would put us
in a minority position, especially to the whims and wants of a group
of people who have nothing in common with us. Our subdivision is
a family-oriented, working middle class area with different desires
than the seniors at Sun City. Please take this into consideration and
allow them to have their own representation and us to have ours.
Thanks.

Comments What a disgrace. So much for an unbiased redrawing of the district
boundaries. And now, the districts are not 1, 2, 3 etc, but are Troy's,
Danny's and Pat's Districts.

Comments Since NO ONEwants to be paired with Sun City and also Sun City will
add another 3000 people within the next few years, why not put a
minimum number allowable in the Sun City Districts. This would
allow a larger number of residents to be grouped into a district with
similar interests and not be paired with Sun City. I realize the
districts must meet size requirements but minimizing the number of
people that must be paired with Sun City would also take into the
account the imbalance that will again be happening as Sun City
continues to grow in the next few years.

Comments Good Evening:
I understood that the revised motion that was made and approved
last week was for Council to meet on August 3rd, and indicated that
it was to be a workshop with no action taken. The stated purpose
being to review all maps available, and explore any other map
options that may be possible for Redistricting. In good faith, I
believe that Council should take no action until August 9th to allow
for public review of any possible map revisions that will only have
been available or discussed beginning on August 3rd. I live in
Georgetown Village and would like my vote to have some chance to
be meaningful in some instances. More importantly, I desire that
there be no question that the Council Districts, that will be in effect
for the next ten years, are simply the best possible without regard
to any special interest. I favor Plan A1 revised, but have concerns
about Dist 3 connectivity. I could live with Plan B1 revised if the
Williams Drive corridor consisted of not more than two districts. I
appreciate your careful deliberation of this important process.

Comments Support option A1-revised.
Sun City voters have been deprived proportional representation for
many years. It is past time to correct this! After reviewing the many
options--why so many?--A1- revised is by far the most equitable and
unbaised presented.

Comments It appears to me that the Draft Plan E seems most appropriate. It
has the best physically condensed geographical ares for the districts.
There are 3 Plans I would favor in order of my preference.
1) Draft Plan E
2) Draft Plan G
3) Draft Plan B revised

Comments Support Plan E
As a resident of District 3 off Leander Road, I support Plan E and
urge councilmembers to support E as it meets the goals as stated by
councilmembers at the start.
Thanks to those at the city who made the web site commenting
possible.

Comments First of all, I congratulate the Council for being persistent: I think the
most recent maps are the best.
As for the map I favor, it is "E," for many reasons. I believe it best
groups residents with similar interests. It also features physically
compact districts, which would ease the job of the individual
councilperson.
I have heard arguments for "representation for west Williams
Drive." While I understand there are many issues that focus on that
corridor, I don't see how a "Williams Drive representative," per se, is
either possible or even legal. I have every confidence that
legitimate, population-based representation can adequately address
Williams Drive issues.
I have also heard discussion that residents in "the Villages" wish to
be disassociated from Sun City. While I believe their concerns
(fears?) are unfounded they would, in fact, be giving up valuable
allies, if their wishes are political imperatives, I recommend map G
(as my second choice.)
In closing, I am reminded of comments by Mayor Garber when he
said that the Council has always acted cooperatively, and that no
valid issue impacting one district has ever been ignored or "ridden
roughshod over" by councilpersons from any other district. That is
the most important comment I have heard, and I hope and trust
that spirit continues in the future, regardless of the results of
redistricting.
