HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 981110-BBRESOLUTION NO. 9W110 -13B A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, SUPPORTING THE JOINT USE OF FORT HOOD'S ROBERT GRAY ARMY AIRFIELD AND ESTABLISHING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, air transportation is a vital element of the overall community's transportation needs and the community must take measures to ensure regional airport facilities are planned and developed to meet growing requirements; and WHEREAS, Georgetown is within the Brazos River Authority (BRA) and thus jointly plans for long-term water supply with Bell County Cities and water supply districts; and WHEREAS, Georgetown is linked to the Killeen area by SH 195, which is in great need to be widened from Killeen to 1-35; and WHEREAS, SH 130 will enhance the traffic flow east of the Austin region and tie into SH 195 which will enhance traffic flow into the Killeen area. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, THAT: SECTION 1. The facts and recitations contained in the preamble of this resolution are hereby found and declared to be true and correct, and are incorporated by reference herein and expressly made a part hereof, as if copied verbatim. The City Council hereby finds that this resolution implements Facilities and Services Policy End 1.0 of the Century Plan Policy Plan Element, which states, "The City will endeavor to increase the quality of life through the upgrading of existing facilities and services and the provision of new services to meet the specific needs of the community," and further finds that the adoption of this resolution is not inconsistent or in conflict with any other Century Plan Policies, as required by Section 2.03 of the Administrative Chapter of the Policy Plan. SECTION 2. The City Council of the City of Georgetown does hereby endorse joint civilian -military use of Robert Gray Army Airfield as a regional airport. SECTION 3. The City staff is instructed to contact TxDOT in support of widening SH 195 from Killeen to 1-35. SECTION 4. The staff is instructed to contact officials at BRA and the LCRA water alliance concerning the regional airport in order to greater coordinate the water resources available to the region. SECTION 5.
