HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 980811-ZRESOLUTION NO. 9�ePgI1- 7- A A RESOLUTION OF APPROVING AN AGREEMENT WITH TEXAS DISPOSAL SYSTEMS, INC. TO PROVIDE CERTAIN SOLID WASTE COLLECTION AND DISPOSAL SERVICES; AND AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO EXECUTE THE SAME AND THE CITY SECRETARY TO ATTEST THERETO. WHEREAS, The City of Georgetown wishes to maximize sanitary and aesthetic living conditions for its citizens, and promote and encourage the protection and conservation of Georgetown's environment and natural resources; and WHEREAS, The City of Georgetown desires to create a model solid waste service system which increases quality while maintaining reasonable costs through a strategic partnership; and WHEREAS, The City of Georgetown's agreement with Longhorn Disposal Systems to provide solid waste and disposal services will expire September 30, 1998; and WHEREAS, Texas Disposal Systems, Inc. was selected in June, 1998, by the City Council from six respondents to a Request for Proposals With Qualifications for the Collection and Disposal of Solid Waste and Recycling; and WHEREAS, Texas Disposal Systems has committed to provide safe, reliable, quality solid waste services for residential, institutional, and commercial customers; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, THAT: SECTION 1. The facts and recitations contained in the preamble of this resolution are hereby found and declared to be true and correct, and are hereby incorporated by reference herein and expressly made a part hereof as if copied verbatim. The City Council hereby finds that this resolution implements the Utilities/Energy Policy End 14.0 of The Century Plan for the City of Georgetown, Texas, which states that Georgetown's utility systems provide safe and reliable service which meets the needs of all citizens and promotes the economic health of the community; and Focus End 14.5 which states that The City's utility policies and practices promote and encourage the protection and conservation of Georgetown's environment and natural resources; and further finds that the adoption of this resolution is not inconsistent or in conflict with any other Century Plan Policies, as required by Section 2.03 of the Administrative Chapter of the Policy Plan. The Council hereby approves the Municipal Solid Waste Collection and Disposal Contract with Texas Disposal Systems, Inc., and the Council authorizes the Mayor to execute the agreement and the City Secretary to attest thereto this resolution. SECTION 3. This resolution shall be effective immediately upon adoption. RESOLVED THIS DAY OF AUGUST 11, 1998.
