Distribution to those who are approved will be 11 a.m.to 3 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays through August 14. The fan drive started in May and continues through August 31.Last year,Family Eldercare delivered nearly 5,600 fans to more than 3,000 households in 11 counties in Central Texas.For details,or to donate to the Summer Fan Drive online,go to www.SummerFanDrive.org. The Georgetown Fire Department and The Caring Place are teaming up with Family Eldercare for the 2014 Summer Fan Drive.The goal of the 24th annual event is to collect new fans for low-income residents including seniors,people with dis- abilities,and families with children. Every summer,Georgetown fire- fighters respond to 911 calls for people who become overheated in their house or apartment. Donations:New fans can be donated at all five Georgetown fire stations.The fans donated in Georgetown will be given to Georgetown area residents who qualify.Monetary donations are accepted on the Family Eldercare Summer Fan Drive website at www.SummerFanDrive.org. Apply:Those eligible to receive a fan are low-income residents, including seniors who are 55 or older,persons who are disabled,and families with children.To apply to receive a fan,go to www.SummerFanDrive.org,or call the Fan Drive phone number at (512)459-4326. Good Neighbor Fund:Donate Online The Good Neighbor Fund allows utility customers to donate financial assistance to those facing a medical crisis or other emergency.The fund is a program sponsored by Georgetown Utility Systems and administered by The Caring Place. Each year,the demand for assistance far exceeds donations.The Caring Place dedicates proceeds from the resale shop,other donations,and fundraising to close the gap and meet the need.Your donation to the Good Neighbor Fund can help The Caring Place provide this emergency assistance. You can make a monthly pledge online.Change or discontinue it any time.It only takes a minute to fill out the online form at customercare.georgetown.org/gnf. Summer Fan Drive Helps Neighbors Marsha Farney,Texas state representative for District 20,presented a resolu- tion at the May 13 City Council meeting honoring Mayor George Garver for his service to Georgetown.“Mayor Garver has worked diligently to maintain Georgetown’s reputation as an excellent place to live,work,and to raise a family,”said Farney.“While overseeing a number of important initiatives to promote the city’s positive growth,highly-regarded for his courteous,poised style of governing,he brought council members together in the spirit of respectful collaboration to find solutions to community issues.”Garver was elected in 2008 and served two terms as mayor. By City of Georgetown ordinance, fireworks of any kind are not allowed in Georgetown city limits or within 5,000 feet of city limits, unless they are used in a permitted display authorized by the Georgetown Fire Department. Sertoma July 4 Celebration The annual Independence Day July 4 celebration sponsored by the Georgetown Sertoma Club in San Gabriel Park is on Friday. Children’s parade with bikes and wagons starts at 11 a.m.by the low-water crossing. Entertainment at the gazebo starts at noon and lasts until the fireworks begin after dark.Visit craft vendors,a children’s area, and food vendors.Admission is free. Ice Cream Social,July 9 Parks and Recreation is sponsor- ing an Ice Cream Social at the Teen Center in the Recreation Center from 6:30 to 8 p.m.The event is open to everyone and honors Parks and Recreation Month in July. The Convention and Visitors Bureau Board is accepting appli- cations for Hotel Occupancy Tax grants for events occurring between October 1,2014 and September 30,2015.The dead- line to apply is July 31,2014. City Annual Report HOT Grant Applications A weight limit has been placed on the Austin Avenue bridges over the two forks of the San Gabriel River in Georgetown.The weight limit went into effect in May after a preliminary examination of the bridges by engi- neers from the Texas Department of Transportation. The maximum gross weight for each bridge is 48,000 pounds or 24 tons. The weight limit for a tandem axle on a vehicle is 21,000 pounds or 10.5 tons.The City of Georgetown and TXDOT are evaluating any future actions that may be needed in order to insure the integrity and useful life of the bridges. Weight Limit for Austin Avenue Bridges Independence Day Holiday City offices closed on Friday,July 4 There will be regular solid waste and recycling collection on July 4.
