HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 200308-KRESOLUTION NO. 4003 08— K A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, APPOINTING ELECTION OFFICIALS FOR THE GENERAL ELECTION TO BE HELD ON SATURDAY, MAY 6, 2000 WHEREAS, there will be held a General Election on Saturday, May 6, 2000, to elect Councilmembers for the City of Georgetown Single-Member Districts I and 5; and WHEREAS, the laws of the State of Texas provide that the governing body of a political subdivision other than a county shall appoint the election officials; and that appointment shall be made by written order; and WHEREAS, certain eligibility requirements must be met by the persons appointed to serve as election judges. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND ORDERED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS THAT: SECTION 1 The facts and recitations contained in the preamble of this resolution are hereby found and declared to be true and correct, and are incorporated by reference herein and expressly made a part hereof, as if copied verbatim. The City Council hereby finds that this resolution implements the following policy or policies of the Century Plan — Policy Plan Element: Governmental Affairs Policy End 15.00, which states: "A high level of cooperation and involvement exists among Georgetown's citizens and governmental organizations;" and 2. Governmental Affairs Focus End 15.01, which states: "All citizens actively participate in governmental functions." SECTION 2 Having met the eligibility requirements, the following persons have been found to be qualified to serve as Election Officials in the May 6, 2000 General Election. Serving as Presiding Judge for City of Georgetown Voting Precinct "A" at the Georgetown Public Library will be Mrs. Edwina Sybert of 110 Vivion Lane, Georgetown, Texas. Serving as Alternate Presiding Judge will be Mrs. Julie Arnold, 108 Vivion Lane, Georgetown, Texas. Election Officials Resolution No. Page 1 of 2 Pages Serving as Presiding Judge for City of Georgetown Voting Precinct "B" at the Georgetown Independent School District Administration Building will be Mr. Jim Atencio of 146 Trail Rider Way. Serving as Alternate Presiding Judge will be Mrs. Florence Byam, 160 Trail Rider Way. The clerks who serve at each precinct for the Election shall be chosen by the Presiding Judge of that precinct. As Early Voting Clerk, the City Secretary, Sandra Lee, hereby appoints the following persons to serve as temporary Deputy Early Voting Clerks: Alice Pennington, 1004 Church Street, Georgetown, and the following persons who are currently employed by the City of Georgetown: Shirley Rinn, Administrative Assistant to the Acting City Manager; Murray Blackman, Assistant to the City Manager; and Donald Ledbetter, Mail Courier. Ballots from Early Voting will be counted by an Early Voting Ballot Board. Jim Atencio, Election Judge of Voting Precinct "B" and Florence Byam, Alternate Judge of Voting Precinct "B" shall serve as the Early Voting Ballot Board. SECTION 3 Election officials shall be compensated at a rate of $6.00 per hour for hours spent in training as well as those hours spent while on duty on Election Day. Officials who deliver the ballots and election supplies to City Hall after the closing of the polls on Election Day shall be compensated an additional flat fee of $25.00 over the hourly rate for their service. SECTION 4 This resolution shall be effective immediately upon adoption. RESOLVED this 8th day of March, 2000.
