Residentialgrowthcontinuestobe healthyinGeorgetownwith690 newresidentialpermitsincitylimits in2013,representingavalueof $294.9million.Thisisthehighest numberofresidentialpermitssince 2007.Thecityalsoadded445 multi-familyunitsin2013,includ- ingapartmentsandseniorliving facilities. ThePlanningDepartmentestimates thatin2013(Jan.1–Dec.31),the city’spopulationincreasedfrom 50,445to52,351.Sincethe2010 census,thecity’spopulationhas grown10.4percent.Includingthe extraterritorialjurisdiction,which extendsupto3.5milesbeyondcity limits,theJanuary1,2014popula- tionestimateis76,010. Housingvaluesalsohaveincreased, withtheaveragehomein Georgetownvaluedat$190,802on MayoralElection onMay10 Theassessedvaluationinthecity,whichrepresentsthetotalvalueofallproperty inthecitylimits,hasincreasedfrom$2.2billionin2004to$4.7billionin2014. GeorgetownEconomyandPopulationGrowing Georgetowncontinuestohaveone ofthelowestpropertytaxrates amongcitiesintheCentralTexas region. ThenewLakewayDriveBridge openedtotrafficinFebruaryasoffi- cialswiththeCityofGeorgetown joinedtheTexasDepartmentof Transportationtomarkthecomple- tionofagreatlyimprovedeast-west linkinthecity.Thenewbridgehas dedicatedleft-turnlanes,wide shoulders,andsidewalks.Funding forthe$10.25millionbridge includedfederalandstatesources and$2.5millionfromthe GeorgetownTransportation EnhancementCorporationviathe 0.5percent4Bsalestaxin Georgetown.“Thisprojectisagreat exampleofcollaborationbyanum- berofagenciesandweareexcitedto seethisnewbridgebecomeareali- ty,”saidMayorGeorgeGarverat theopeningevent.
