HomeMy WebLinkAboutReporter February 2014TheCityacceptedafinaldonationof 207acresinDecemberforthefuture developmentofthe528-acreGarey ParkonRR2243.Thegiftrepresents thefinallanddonationresultingfrom anannouncementin2004byJack andCammyGareythattheywould donatetheirhomeandranchto becomeafutureCitypark.Thegift alsoincludeda$5millionmatching granttotheCityforthefuturedevel- opmentofthepark. JackGareytoldthecouncilin Decemberthatthecurrentvalueof thelifegift,includingtheland,home, andthe$5millioncashgift,is$21.5 million.TheGareys’donationisthe largestgifttheCityhasever received.“We’redeeplyindebtedto youandwillthankyouformany yearstocome,”saidMayorGeorge Garver. TheCitycompletedamasterplanin 2006forthefuturedevelopmentof GareyPark.In2008,Georgetown votersapproved$35.5millionin parksbonds,including$10millionto beusedforthefuturedevelopment ofGaryPark.TheParksand RecreationDepartmentwillbegin theconstructiondesignworkin2014 tobeginparkdevelopmentplans.
