The Animal Shelter Advisory Board of the City of Georgetown, Texas, met on Thursday, January 15,
2009.
Members Present:
Debbie Frase, Chair, Christy Hullum, Vice Chair, Keith Fruge, Secretary, Erica Haley, DVM, Holly
Garland, and Jackie Carey.
Members Absent:
Patty Eason.
Staff Present:
Ken Finn.
Minutes
Regular Meeting
Meeting called to order at 6:01 p.m. by Debbie Frase.
1. Citizens comments — none.
2. November 2008 minutes — Keith Fruge motioned voting approval and Jackie Carey second. Minutes
were approved unanimously.
3. Animal Services statistical and analytical report for the month of December, 2008 — Ken Finn
discussed the report for December. Calls for service are up but corresponds with population and city
annexation increases. Cat intakes experienced a nearly 50% reduction from last year's rates and cat
euthanasia rates are also down significantly.
4. Discussion and possible action on fundraising ideas for anti- tethering ordinance — Initial
feedback from shelter management is that there does not appear to be a significant need for assistance in
obtaining fencing to meet requirements of the new tethering ordinance. The board will continue to monitor
the situation and relook fundraising in the future if necessary.
5. Discussion and possible action on Pet of the Week pictures in the Williamson County Sun —
Holly Garland discussed the issue with the editors of the Williamson County Sun. The Georgetown
Animal Shelter "Pet of the Week" feature will continue at no cost to the shelter.
6. Discussion and possible action on the initial feedback on the new Tethering Ordinance — Ken
Finn stated that approximately five warnings have been issued and compliance has been high. Overall,
the ordinance appears to be having the desired effects so far.
7. Discussion and possible action on Leash Free area west of IH -35 — Initial discussions will take
place with the city parks department on the possibility of adding leash free areas west of IH -35.
8. Discussion and possible action on Microchipping, consideration for a new ordinance that
would require Microchipping. Item deferred to the February meeting.
