HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes_ANSAB_04.17.2008Minutes of the Meeting of the Animal Shelter Advisory Board City of Georgetown, Texas Thursday, April 17, 2008 The Animal Shelter Advisory Board of the City of Georgetown, Texas, met on Thursday , April 17, 2008. Members Present: Christy Hullum, Acting Chair, Keith Fruge, Secretary, Patty Eason, Erica Haley, DVM, Jackie Carey and Holly Garland. Members Absent: Debbie Frase Staff Present: Ken Finn Minutes Regular Meeting 1. Citizens comments – none. 2. February 2008 minutes – Minutes were accepted unanimously. 3. Shelter Report for February and March – Ken Finn presented the shelter reports. Returns to owners continues to trend up and is possibly attributable to the microchipping program. Ken plans to begin tracking microchipping intake and return statistics later this year. Cat nuisance complaints are up with no specific cause apparent. 4. Discussion and possible action on feedback to City Council on Budget – After discussion, it was decided that two priority items would be added to the animal shelter budget request to the city council. The first priority is for an additional animal control officer and the second is for furnishings and equipment for the shelter build out expansion due for completion later this year. 5. Discussion and possible action about City of Georgetown liability exposure with the Bark Park – Ken met with city officials who stated that the city is not unduly exposed to liability from potential incidents involving the Bark Park and the signage at the park with “participation is at your own risk” adequately conveys city liability. 6. Discussion and possible action on Dog tethering – Ken and Christy gave a presentation to the city council workshop and the council reacted favorably to the idea of a dog tethering ordinance. Gabe Sansing, city council member, indicated that at the next city council meeting he would propose that the city council direct city staff to develop a proposed ordinance. 7. Discussion and possible action on Proposed Revisions to SOPs – Topic postponed to next meeting. 8. Discussion about new Shelter hours – Ken presented the new hours when the shelter is open to the public. The goal is to better serve the citizens of the city. Meeting adjourned by Christy Hullum at 7:25 p.m.
