HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes_ANSAB_11.20.2008Minutes of the Meeting of the Animal Shelter Advisory Board City of Georgetown, Texas Thursday, November 20, 2008 The Animal Shelter Advisory Board of the City of Georgetown, Texas, met on Thursday , November 20, 2008. Members Present: Debbie Frase, Chair, Christy Hullm, Vice Chair, Keith Fruge, Secretary, Patty Eason, Holly Garland, and Jackie Carey. Members Absent: Erica Haley, DVM Staff Present: Ken Finn Minutes Regular Meeting Meeting called to order at 6:05 p.m. by Debbie Frase. 1. Citizens comments – none. 2. August and October 2008 minutes – Patty Evans motioned voting approval and Christie Hullum second. Minutes were approved unanimously. 3. Animal Services statistical and analytical report for the month of October, 2008 – Ken Finn discussed the report for October. Calls for service are up but corresponds with population and city annexation increases. Return of pets to owners continues to trend upward and Emancipet conducted a spay/neuter clinic 10-18 October. The “Art for Animals” fund raiser was a great success. 4. Discussion and possible action on fundraising ideas for anti-tethering ordinance – Patty Evans motioned voting approval and Keith Fruge second a motion to use a percentage of the Petsmart contribution towards pet adoptions to fund limited assistance towards fencing. Shelter personnel will develop a process to vet how to distribute funds to citizens. The motion was approved unanimously. 5. Discussion and possible action on Pet of the Week pictures in the Williamson County Sun – Jackie Carrie discussed the issue of the Williamson County Sun reducing the size and write-up of the Pet of the Week photograph in the paper while providing an entire page for the County Shelter’s pet adoption efforts which is advertisement supported. Patti Evans motioned and Jackie Carey second to have Holly Garland represent the Advisory Board to discuss the issue with the newspaper. The motion was approved unanimously. 6. Disaster and possible action on the “citizen comments” section in the agenda of future Animal shelter Advisory Board meetings – A discussion took place on discontinuing the citizen comment agenda item since any citizen can speak on any agenda item or have a specific topic added to the agenda if they follow city policy. Patti Evans motioned and Holly Garland second to make the change. The motion was approved unanimously. 7. Discussion and possible action on what subjects/issues the Board would like to schedule for regular reviews – Ken Finn led the discussion on what items should be reviewed on a recurring basis. The following items will be reviewed on a quarterly basis: State of the Shelter, Disaster Preparedness and City Ordinance updates. Fund raising will be reviewed on a semi-annual basis. Keith Fruge motioned and Jackie Carey second the proposal. The motion was approved unanimously. Meeting adjourned by Debbie Frase at 7:07 p.m.
