Members Present: Shawn Gunnin, Chair, Patty Eason, Lana Cagle, Dawn Hitt-Wilken, Ken Finn, Erica Haley Members Absent: Leann Phenix Staff Present: Jackie Carey Minutes Regular Meeting 1. No citizen comments. 2. Chair asks for volunteers for position of secretary. No response. Chair nominates self to position. Motion by Lana Cagle to accept Shawn Gunnin as secretary. Second, Dawn Hitt-Wilken. Motion passes unanimously. 3. Motion by Ken Finn to accept the minutes as presented. Second, Patty Eason. Motion passes unanimously. 4. Ken Finn presents director’s report. Numbers are down as expected during summer months. Two adoption events were held during the month; both were better than recent adoption events in terms of adoptions, donations, and interest. The newly opened Georgetown PetsMart is turning out to be a great outlet for shelter cats. Animal Servies staff will continue to be very responsive in working with PetsMart to maintain this partnership. An Animal Control Officer (Beverly) resigned to pursue another career. The volunteer hours referred to in the director’s report reflect considerable hours from one volunteer manning the Shelter front desk, along with volunteers at the adoption events. 5. Discussion about long and short-term goals for the Advisory Board and the Animal Shelter, focusing on the Advisory Board for now and on the Animal Shelter at future meetings. Result of discussion is the following draft of goals and objectives for the Animal Shelter Advisory Board. Core Purpose: To provide support and guidance to City of Georgetown Animal Services. Goal – Develop a positive and supportive relationship with City staff. Objective – Seek professional training for the Board regarding the duties and expectations of Board members. Objective – Create code of conduct for Board members. Goal – Provide guidance in strategic planning for Animal Services and Shelter. Objective – Work with Shelter to create strategic plan each October. Goal – Increase awareness of responsible pet ownership and promote public awareness of Georgetown Animal Services. Objective – Strive to place one article per month in the Williamson County Sun. Objective – Pursue establishing a guest column in the Sun. Objective – As possible, place same articles/guest columns in other venues such as the utility bill newsletter and the City website. Objective – Organize people performing community service at the Animal Shelter to go door-to-door with flyers and place flyers at the Community Health Clinic and the Caring Place. Ken Finn moved that we review the proposed goals and objectives at the next meeting. Second, Patty Eason. Motion passes unanimously. Ken Finn moved to adjourn. Second, Lana Cagle. Meeting adjourned at 7:05 p.m.
