HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 85-08 - Sesiquicentennial CommitteeORDINANCE NO. 85-08 AN ORDINANCE CONFIRMING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE GEORGETOWN SESQUICENTENNIAL COMMITTEE AND BEING ENACTED PURSUANT TO AR'T'ICLE 1105 (b) SEC. 3 OF VERNON'S CIVIL STATUTES OF TEXAS DETERMINING THAT A NECESSITY EXISTS FOR IMPROVEMENTS TO BE MADE TO THE SIDEWALKS, CURBS, GUTTERS AND APPURTENANCES THERETO LOCATED AROUND THE PUBLIC SQUARE OF SAID CITY OF GEORGETOWN ACCORDING TO THE MAP THEREOF OF SAID CITY OF GEORGETOWN AND ESTABLISHING A FUND AND CONTAINING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE WHEREAS, heretofore the City of Georgetown by resolution appointed the Georgetown Sesquicentennial Committee and such committee should have been established, appointed and designated in an ordinance rather than in a resolution; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Article 1105 (b) Vernon's Civil Statutes of Texas it is appropriate for the City to determine the necessity for improvements to be made to the sidewalks, curbs, gutters and appurtenances on and around the public square of Georgetown that may include making permanent improvements to such structures; and WHEREAS, a need exists for the establishment of a fund in the name of the City of Georgetown and identified as the "Historical District Improvement Project Sesquicentennial Fund"; THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN AS FOLLOWSO I. By the passage of this ordinance the City Council of the City of Georgetown does hereby confirm and acknowledge the establishment of the Sesquicentennial Committee composed of the members as follows: Marvin McKinnon Nancy Raper Peggy Laing Jeannine Fairburn Dennis Rea Margaret Shilling Susie Clinard Eugenia Harrell John Tidwell Pat Giddings Charles Sawyer Dorian Sullivan George Brightwell Pam Fling Jim Wilson John Casburn Ken Richardson Albert Evans Such committee serves at the will of the City Council, II, That the Georgetown Sesquicentennial Committee has adopted a Historical District Improvement Project that includes the permanent improvement of sidewalks, gutters, curbs and appurtenances and certain lighting and landscaping and that pursuant to Article 1105 (b) Section 3 of Vernon's Civil Statutes of Texas it is appropriate for the City Council of the City of Georgetown to determine that a need exists to do such improvements and by the passage of this ordinance said City Council does hereby determine that such need exists. The specifics and details relative to the work to be done and the exact area to be involved is being formulated by the Sesquicentennial Committee through its projects sub -committee. By the passage of this ordinance the City Council does hereby establish a Sesquicentennial Fund that will be represented by a City of Georgetown bank account to be opened that shall be identified as the Sesquicentennial Fund or as may be directed by the City Council. Donations to the said project may be deposited in said fund and such proceeds shall be available to the Sesquicentennial Committee as may be directed by the City Council.
