HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 870385.014 - Amending Chapter 14ORDINANCE NUMBER 870385.014 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 14, LIBRARY, OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN BY REVISING SECTIONS 14-15 14-25 14-3 TO CREATE A LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD; PROVIDING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; AND SETTING AN EFFECTIVE DATE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN: SECTION 1. That Chapter 14, Library, of the Code of Ordinances of the Georgetown be amended to read as follows: Sec. 14-1 Library Board -Authorized. The mayor is hereby authorized to recommend and the council shall appoint a nine -member board to be known as the Georgetown Public Library Advisory Board. Effective upon the second and final Advisory Board shall reading of this replace the ordinance, existing the City Library Library Board which will be dissolved effective the same date. Sec. 14-2.Same-Members; officers. The Library Advisory Board shall be composed of nine (9) members. The first appointed board shall consist of members of the current City Library Board. Members shall serve out their current staggered terms. Thereafter, the term of each board member shall be for three (3) years on a staggered basis The officers of such board shall be a president and a secretary who shall be elected from among the membership for a one-year term at the beginning of the appointment cycle and shall serve until their successors are elected and qualified a year later. The president shall be a voting member of the board. Sec. 14-3. Same -Purpose and duties. The Library Advisory Board serves in the capacity of a citizens advisory committee to the Georgetown City Council. Such Library Advisory Board is authorized to seek funds through grants from agencies and through fund-raising events; and all funds received shall be forwarded to the City and are subject to budgeting review and approval. The Library Advisory Board shall also serve to promote Library programs and services in the community. City of SECTION 2. If any section, paragraph, clause, phrase, or provision of this Ordinance shall be adjudged invalid or held unconstitutional, the same shall not affect the validity of this Ordinance as a whole or any part or provision thereof other than the part so declared to be invalid or unconstitutional. SECTION 3.
