AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING THE POSSESSION OR USE OF GLASS
BOTTLES OR CONTAINERS AROUND THE DOWNTOWN SQUARE DURING THE
MAYFAIR FESTIVITIES; PROVIDING A PENALTY CLAUSE; PROVIDING FOR
PUBLICATION; PROVIDING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING FOR
EMERGENCY PASSAGE
WHEREAS, Mayfair will be held around the downtown square of
Georgetown, Texas on Saturday, May 9, 1989; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Georgetown, Texas finds
it necessary and proper and in the best interest of the citizens of
Georgetown to prohibit the possession or use of glass bottles around
the downtown square during Mayfair; and
WHEREAS, in the preservation of public health and welfare of the
citizens of Georgetown, there exists the need to implement this
ordinance on emergency passage
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GEORGETOWN, TEXAS THAT*
SECTION I.
The City Council of the City of Georgetown, Texas hereby finds the
recitals set forth above to be true and correct and are incorporated
by reference herein and expressly made a part hereof, as if copied
verbatim.
SECTION II.
It shall be unlawful to possess or use a glass bottle or
container around the downtown square during the Mayfair festivities on
Saturday, May 6, 1989. The downtown square is defined as the
following*
The area around the square beginning at the western point of the the
northern building line of Seventh Street continuing east across Main
Street to the western building line on the north side of Main
continuing south across Eighth Street to the southern building line on
the east side of Eighth Street continuing west across Austin Avenue to
the eastern building line and then continuing north across Seventh
Street to the eastern building line.
SECTION III.
Any person violating any provision of this ordinance shall be deemed
guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof, shall be punished
by a fine of not more than $200.00.

SECTION IV.
Upon passage the City Secretary shall cause this ordinance's caption to
be published within ten (10) days in the newspaper of general
jurisdiction and this ordinance shall become effective immediately upon
its publication.
SECTION V.
If any section, paragraph, clause, phrase, or provision of this
Ordinance shall be adjudged invalid or held unconstitutional, the same
shall not affect the validity of this Ordinance as a whole or any part
or provision thereof other than the part so declared to be invalid or
unconstitutional.
SECTION VI,
This Ordinance establishes an emergency for the immediate preservation
of public peace and welfare, and therefore shall take effect
immediately upon its publication within ten days after passage as
provided for in Sections 2.10 and 2.11 of the Charter of the City of
Georgetown, Texas.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED on emergency reading on this the d5IL day
of 1989 by a favorable vote of not less than a
majority plus one of the council members qualified in serving.
