Each year, children in hundreds of families receive toys from Blue Santa, a program of the Georgetown Police Department. Toy Donations:Bring new, unwrapped toys to the Georgetown Police Department or to donation Christmas Tree RecyclingStarts January 2 If you have a live tree in your house for the Christmas season, instead of sending it to the landfill in January, turn it into garden mulch. From January 2 through January 30, bring your Christmas tree to the City of Georgetown Collection Station and we’ll grind it up into mulch. Before you drop off your tree, please remove the tree stand and any gar- land, ornaments, or lights. Mulch is available, year-round, free- of-charge at the Collection Station, located at 250 W.L. Walden Drive. Hours are Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Collection Station will be closed on December 25 and January 1. Phone Book Recycling Recycle your old phone book from December 1 through January 4. Look for special containers at both HEB store locations in Georgetown. Project Re-Direct is a service provid- ed by AT&T and HEB. barrels at businesses in Georgetown. Donations of clothing or bicycles cannot be accepted by Blue Santa, but can be made at Goodwill or The Caring Place. Toy Donation Deadline:December 10 Monetary Donations: Checks to “CPAAA Blue Santa” should be sent to the Georgetown Police Department, c/o CPAAA Programs, 809 MLK Jr. Street, Georgetown, TX, 78626. Donations are deposited in the Blue Santa account of the Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association, a nonprofit that man- ages Blue Santa and other commu- nity programs. Monetary donations can be made at any time. Applications: Starting November 1, families may apply for Blue Santa assistance. Blue Santa is for children who live in the City of Georgetown and quali- fy for free or reduced fee lunch at school or meet federal poverty guidelines. (Families who live out- side City Limits in Williamson County should apply with Brown Santa.) Applications are distributed through Georgetown ISD schools and also are available at the Georgetown Police Department or The Caring Place, located at 2000 Railroad Avenue. Entries in the Edible Construction Extravaganza are due at the library between December 5 and December 7. See the library website (library.georgetown.org) for details. Voting by the public for their favorites begins on December 9 and continues through December 15. Winners will be announced on December 17, during Santa’s visit. Santa arrives at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 17,to greet and chat with the storytime crowd. Caregivers are invited to take their own photos of the fun. Taylor Weaver will provide piano music and will lead the sing-along that morning. Holiday music will fill the air at the library three more times during December. The Elberg String Trio per- forms on Sunday, December 13, from 2 to 4 p.m., on Wednesday, December 16 the harp and string trio (Hannah and Bethany Malone and Danielle Cordray) that wowed our audience last December will perform again from 1 to 3 p.m., and the GMA Student String Ensemble performs on Monday, December 21 at 10:30 a.m. Holiday closings:The library will close at 6 p.m. December 21-23, will be closed December 24 and 25, and will reopen at 9 a.m. on Saturday, December 26. The library will close at 6 p.m. on December 31 and will be closed January 1. Georgetown Public Library Holiday Happenings Holiday Closings City offices closed December 24 – 25 and January 1 No solid waste or recycling collection on December 25 and January 1. Friday collection will slide to Saturday for each holiday week. Regular pickup on December 24. First Friday, December 4 ‘Twas The Night Before Stroll, Downtown shops, galleries, and restaurants are open late with live music. Christmas Stroll, December 5 A Cowboy, Chisholm Trail Christmas:Entertainment, photos with Santa, horse-drawn carriage rides, more than 100 art and craft vendors, Bethlehem Village, and Whooville with free activities for children. Breakfast with Santa, December 12 An annual pancake breakfast with Santa Claus at Fire Station 1, located at 301 Industrial Avenue. Two breakfast seatings at 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. Proceeds benefit needy families in Georgetown. Sponsored by the Sun City Rotary, Extended School Enrichment Program, and the Georgetown Fire Department. Holiday Home Tour, December 12 – 13 Five historic homes will be featured in the annual tour sponsored by the Georgetown Heritage Society. Hours on both Saturday and Sunday are noon to 5 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance at the Visitor Information Center and $15 the weekend of the tour. Co-ed Youth Basketball Registration Registration for Georgetown Parks and Recreation co-ed youth basket- ball is November 30 through January 5. The fee is $30 for Georgetown residents and $40 for nonresidents. Leagues are for youth pre-K through 7th grade. Games are played on Saturdays at the Georgetown Recreation Center starting on January 9 through March 13. Volunteer coaches are needed. For details, call the Recreation Center at (512) 930-3596.
