HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 900242 - Results General ElectionORDINANCE NO. 900242 AN ORDINANCE CANVASSING THE RETURNS AND DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN GENERAL ELECTION ON MAY 5, 1990; AND PROVIDING FOR EMERGENCY PASSAGE WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Georgetown, Texas ordered an election to be held on Saturday, May 5, 1990 for the purpose of electing the following officials for this City: The Mayor and three (3) members of Council, District Nos. 2,6, and 7; as well as deciding on a proposition to adopt a one-half of one percent sales tax within the city to be used for improving and promoting economic and industrial development and; WHEREAS, the City Council has investigated all matters pertaining to said election, including the ordering, giving notice, holding and making returns of said election; and WHEREAS, the election officers who held said election have duly made the returns of the results thereof, and said returns have been duly delivered to said City Council; and WHEREAS, it appears from said returns, duly and legally made, that there were cast at said election 1,721 valid and legal votes; that each of the candidates received the following votes: MAYOR Bill Connor 1074 Luther Laubach 634 Write Ins 6 DISTRICT NO. 2 Winfred Bonner 64 Write Ins 3 DISTRICT NO. 6 Bob Schrawger 138 Ascension Cantu 24 Karen Rush Hill 99 Write Ins 0 DISTRICT NO. 7 Ferdinand L. Tonn 146 John Kuhn 101 Write Ins 0 PROPOSITION For 778 Against 917 WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Georgetown has determined that this Ordinance must be passed on an emergency reading to allow the Councilmembers to take office in a timely manner, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN TEXAS, that: SECTION I. The City Council officially finds and determines that said election was duly called; that proper notice of said election was given in accordance with law; that said election was held in accordance with law; and that returns of the results of said election have been made and delivered, and that the City Council has canvassed said returns, all in accordance with the law and the Ordinance calling said election. SECTION II. The City Council officially finds and determines that Bill Connor was elected as Mayor of the City of Georgetown; Winfred Bonner was elected as Councilmember for District No. 2; Bob Schrawger was elected as Councilmember for District No. 6; Ferdinand Tonn was elected as Councilmember for District No. 7; and the proposition for a one-half of one percent sales tax was defeated. Furthermore, said parties are hereby declared duly elected to said respective offices, subject to the taking of their oaths of office as provided for by the laws of the State of Texas and the Charter of the City of Georgetown, Texas. SECTION III. It is further found and determined that in accordance with the order of this go notice of the d bulletin board Chambers, a plat public, and said and continuously verning body, the City Secretary posted written ate, place and subject of the meeting on the located outside of City Hall and the Council e convenient and readily accessible to the general notice having been so posted and remaining posted for at least 72 hours preceding the scheduled time of said meeting. A copy of the return of said posting shall be attached to the minutes of this meeting and shall be made a part thereof for all intents and purposes. SECTION Iv. This Ordinance establishes an emergency due to the need for these Councilmembers to take office in a timely fashion and in accordance with the provisions of the Election Code of the State of Texas and the Charter of the City of Georgetown and therefore shall take effect immediately upon passage by a favorable vote of not less than a majority plus one of the Councilmembers qualified in serving.
