HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 91-15 - Canvassing Runoff Elections! ` irMiTAKOJEE MI •• .. f WA WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Georgetown, Texas ordered an election to be held on Saturday, May 18, 1991, for the purpose of a runoff election of the following officials: Two (2) members of the City Council, District Nos. 1, and 5; WHEREAS, the City Council has investigated all matters pertaining to said election, including the ordering, giving notice, holding and making returns of said election; and WHEREAS, the election officers who held said election have duly made the returns of the results thereof, and said returns have been duly delivered to said City Council; and WHEREAS, it appears from said returns, duly and legally made, that there were cast at said election 289 valid and legal votes; that each of the candidates received the following votes: DISTRICT NO, 1 Lorenzo (Shorty) Valdez Jr. 66 Lupe Carranco 34 DISTRICT NO, 5 Bill H. Shelby 101 Steven D. Bamsch 88 WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Georgetown has determined that this Ordinance must be passed on an emergency reading to allow the Council Members to take office in a timely manner, NOW, i' ORDAINED 1 COUNCIL OF GEORGETOWN SECTION 1. The City Council officially finds and determines that said election was duly called; that proper notice of said election was given in accordance with law; that said election was held in accordance with law; and that returns of the results of said election have been made and delivered, and that the City Council has canvassed said returns, all in accordance with the law and the Ordinance calling said election. SECTION H. The City Council officially finds and determines that Shorty Valdez was elected as Council Member for District 1; and Bill Shelby was elected as Council Member for District 5. Furthermore, said parties are hereby declared duly elected to said respective offices, subject to the taking of their oaths of office as provided for by the laws of the State of Texas and the Charter of the City of Georgetown, Texas, SECTION III. This Ordinance establishes an emergency due to the need for these Council Members to take office in a timely fashion and in accordance with the provisions of the Election Code of the State of Texas and the Charter of the City of Georgetown, and therefore shall take effect immediately upon passage by a favorable vote of not less than a majority plus one of the Council Members qualified in serving.
