WHEREAS, the City of Georgetown conducts its City elections on the first Saturday in
May each year;
WHEREAS, the Special Events Association of the City of Georgetown sponsors Mayfair,
a community fair, during the first weekend in May each year;
WHEREAS, one of the polling places for the City election and Mayfair are located in the
downtown historic area;
WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that sufficient parking for voters for the City
election must be provided near the polling place at the Fire Station on Main Street;
WHEREAS, some of the streets in the neighborhoods surrounding the downtown historic
area are too narrow to allow access for emergency vehicles when vehicles are parked along both
sides of the street;
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Georgetown has determined that it is in the
best interest of the City to establish temporary election parking areas to assist voters on Election
Day;
WHEREAS, the City Council has further determined that it is in the best interest of the
City to establish temporary fire lanes, restricting parking on one side of the street, on certain
streets during the Mayfair event, in order to provide essential emergency services; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has found that the action implements the Economic
Development Policy 4; and the Facilities and Services Policy 1 of the Century Plan - Policy Plan
Element, and is not found to be inconsistent or in conflict with any other Century Plan Policies,
as required by Section 2.03 of the Administrative Chapter of the Policy Plan;

The facts and recitations contained in the preamble of this ordinance are hereby found and
declared to be true and correct, and are incorporated by reference herein and expressly made a
part hereof, as if copied verbatim.
SECTION 2
Section 10.16.075 is hereby added to the Code of Ordinances of the City of Georgetown
to read as follows:
A. Election Day Parking. No person shall park a vehicle in the parking
lot on the northeast corner of the intersection of Main Street and Ninth Street,
except when such person is voting in the polling place located at the Fire Station
on the northwest corner of the intersection of Main Street and Ninth Street. Said
parking prohibition shall be in effect until 7:00 p.m. on Election Day. All such
parking for voters shall be limited to thirty (30) minutes, unless such person has
received written authorization of the presiding election judge. The parking lot so
restricted shall be designated by the posting of a sign at each entrance on which
is printed "Parking for Voters Only By City Ordinance -- 30 Minute Limit --
Violators fined up to $200 and towed at owner's expense".
B. Election Day Fire Lane. No person shall park a vehicle on the south
side of Central Avenue from Williams Drive to Park Lane when such area is
designated by a sign on which is printed "No Parking - Fire Lane - Tow -Away
Zone", on any Election Day at which the Fire Station located on Central Avenue

C. Mayfair Fire Lanes. No person shall park a vehicle in any fire lane
designated by the posting of a sign on which is printed "No Parking -- Fire Lane -
- Tow -Away Zone", and being the portions of the following streets:
1.
West
side
of Church Street from Fifth
Street
to Tenth Street; and
2.
North
side
of Ninth Street from Main
Street
to Ash Street.
D. All cars parked in violation of this section may be towed at the
owner's expense. All such persons who park in violation of this section shall be
guilty of a Class C misdemeanor and fined up to $200 per violation."

SECTION 3
All ordinances and resolutions, or parts of ordinances and resolutions, in conflict with this
Ordinance are hereby repealed, and are no longer of any force and effect.
If any provision of this ordinance or application thereof to any person or circumstance,
shall be held invalid, such invalidity shall not affect the other provisions, or application thereof,
of this ordinance which can be given effect without the invalid provision or application, and to
this end the provisions of this ordinance are hereby declared to be severable.
SECTION 5
The Mayor is hereby authorized to sign this ordinance and the City Secretary to attest.
This ordinance shall become effective and be in full force and effect in (10) ten days on and after
publication in acordance with the provisions of the Charter of the City of Georgetown.
