HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 94-17 - Election CanvassWHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Georgetown, Texas ordered an election to be held on Saturday, May 7, 1994 for the purpose of electing the following officials for this City: The Mayor and four (4) members of Council, Districts .1, 2, 6, and 7; and WHEREAS, the City Council has investigated all matters pertaining to said election, including the ordering, giving notice, holding and making returns of said election; and WHEREAS, the election officers who held said election have duly made the returns of the results thereof, and said returns have been duly delivered to said City Council; and WHEREAS, it appears from said returns, duly and legally made, that each of the candidates received the following votes: MAYOR Mike McMaster 507 Deborah Dummer 71 Leo Wood 723 DISTRICT NO. 1 George R. Arroyos 93 Joe A. Munoz, Jr. 89 DISTRICT NO. 2 Ted Dummer 36 Winfred Bonner 77 DISTRICT NO. 6 Doris Curl 74 DISTRICT NO. 7 Ferdinand L. Tonn 86 1994 Election Ordinance No. Page 1 of 3 Pages WHEREAS, it also appears from said returns, duly and legally made, that each of the ten propositions on the ballot in this General Election received the following votes: Proposition I Proposition 2 Proposition 3 Proposition 4 Proposition 5 Proposition 6 Proposition 7 Proposition 8 Proposition 9 Proposition 10 Votes for 1129 Votes Against 77 Votes for 946 Votes Against 364 Votes for 1008 Votes Against 131 Votes for 806 Votes Against 365 Votes for 879 Votes Against 298 Votes for 1146 Votes Against 66 Votes for 1091 Votes Against 97 Votes for 590 Votes Against 515 Votes for 967 Votes Against 228 Votes for 1069 Votes Against 124 WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Georgetown has determined that this Ordinance must be passed on an emergency reading to allow the Councilmembers to take office in a timely manner, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN TEXAS, that: SECTION I. The City Council officially finds and determines that said election was duly called; that proper notice of said election was given in accordance with law; that said election was held in accordance with law; and that returns of the results of said election have been made and delivered, and that the City Council has canvassed said returns, all in accordance with the law and the Ordinance calling said election. SECTION II. The City Council officially finds and determines that Leo Wood was elected as Mayor of the City of Georgetown; George R. Arroyos was elected as Councilmember for District No. l; Winfred Bonner was elected as Councilmember for District No. 2; Doris Curl was elected as 1994 Election Ordinance No. Page 2 of 3 Pages Councilmember for District No. 6; and Ferdinand L. Tonn was elected as Councilmember for District No. 7. Furthermore, said parties are hereby declared duly elected to said respective offices, subject to the taking of their oaths of office as provided for by the laws of the State of Texas and the Charter of the City of Georgetown, Texas, SECTION IV The City Council officially finds that the following propositions passed with a majority affirmative vote: Propositions: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10. SECTION V. It is further found and determined that in accordance with the order of this governing body, the City Secretary posted written notice of the date, place and subject of this meeting on the bulletin board located outside of City Hall/Council Chambers, a place convenient and readily accessible to the general public, and said notice having been so posted and remaining posted continuously for at least 72 hours preceding the scheduled time of said meeting. A copy of the return of said posting shall be attached to the minutes of this meeting and shall be made a part thereof for all intents and purposes. SECTION VI. This Ordinance establishes an emergency due to the need for these Councilmembers to take office in a timely fashion and in accordance with the provisions of the Election Code of the State of Texas and the Charter of the City of Georgetown, and therefore this ordinance shall take effect immediately upon passage by a favorable vote of not less than a majority plus one of the Councilmembers qualified in serving. PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED on emergency reading on this 10th day of May, 1994.
