HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 98-42 - School Speed ZonesORDINANCE i,♦ ! .R WHEREAS, three new public schools (Benold Middle School, Village Elementary, and Georgetown High School Ninth Grade Center) have been constructed in different areas of the City, resulting in significant increases in traffic in those areas; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Georgetown, Texas, hereby finds it necessary to modify the speed on Northwest Boulevard, Village Commons Boulevard, U.S. 81 (North Austin Avenue) and County Road 151 to include or expand school zones; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, THAT: SECTION 1. The facts and recitations contained in the preamble of this ordinance are hereby found and declared to be true and correct, and are incorporated by reference herein and expressly made a part hereof, as if copied verbatim. The City Council hereby finds that this ordinance implements Transportation Policy 1 of the Century Plan - Policy Plan Element, which states: "The City will encourage a transportation system that provides for the safe and efficient movement of traffic, promotes the economic interests of the community, and adequately serves the personal needs of individuals", and further finds that the enactment of this ordinance is not inconsistent or in conflict with any other Century Plan Policies, as required by Section 2.03 of the Administrative Chapter of the Policy Plan, SECTION 2, Chapter 10.12.090 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Georgetown, Texas is hereby amended to read as follows: °10.12.090 All City Streets. B. 20 Mile Per Hour Zones. 27. School Speed Zone. Northwest Blvd: Beginning 80 feet north of the intersection of Northwest Blvd and Lakeway Drive, and continuing north along Northwest Blvd to a point 60 feet south of Thornwood, a prima facie maximum speed limit of 20 miles per hour during the hours of 7:45 a.m. until 8:45 a.m., and 3:45 until 4:15 p.m, when school is in session. 28. School Speed Zone. Village Commons Blvd: Beginning 100 feet southeast School Speed Zone Ordinance No.t/4R Page 1 of 2 Pages of the Village Elementary School property line and continuing north on Village Commons Blvd. to a point 100 feet northeast of the school's northeast property line, a prima facie maximum speed limit of 20 miles per hour during the hours of 7:15 a.m. until 8:15 a.m., and 2:45 until 3:45 p.m. 29. School Speed Zone. U.S. 81 (North Austin Avenue): Beginning on U.S. 81 (North Austin Avenue) 50 feet north of County Road 151 and continuing south on North Austin Avenue to the existing School Speed Zone, a prima facie maximum speed limit of 20 miles per hour during the hours of 7:45 a.m. until 8:45 a.m., and 3:45 until 4:15 p.m. when school is in session. 30. School Speed Zone. County Road 151: Beginning at a point 50 feet west of the west curbline of North Austin Avenue and continuing east on County Road 151 to a point 475 feet east of the east curbline of North Austin Avenue, a prima facie maximum speed limit of 20 miles per hour during the hours of 7:45 a.m. until 8:45 a.m., and 3:45 until 4:15 p.m. when school is in session. SECTION 3. All ordinances and resolutions, or parts of ordinances and resolutions, in conflict with this Ordinance are hereby repealed, and are no longer of any force and effect. SECTION 4, The Mayor is hereby authorized to sign this ordinance and the City Secretary to attest. This ordinance shall become effective and be in full force and effect in (10) ten days on and after publication in accordance with the provisions of the Charter of the City of Georgetown.
