HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 99-26-B - Canvassing Results ElectionI r O"INANCE NO, Be ski DI 111 RIMMLIVIN 1111 EUEUfIIfrkn-AELTIf ►�► ► • i i,.ETTILEAGETICT PASSAGE WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Georgetown, Texas ordered an election to be held on Saturday, May 1, 1999 for the purpose of the following: Election of a Mayor and two (2) members of Council, Districts 2, and b; and WHEREAS, on April 13, 1999, the City Council declared that Charles "Ross" Burson was unopposed in his candidacy to retain the District 6 Councilmember position and was on that date duly elected to office; and WHEREAS, the City Council has investigated all matters pertaining to the May 1, 1999, General Election, including the ordering, giving notice, holding and making returns of said election; and WHEREAS, the election officers who held said election have duly made available the returns of the results thereof, and said returns have been duly delivered to said City Council; and WHEREAS, it appears from said returns, duly and legally made, that each of the candidates received the following votes: MAYOR Della Green Leo Wood Ferdinand L. Tonn Mary Ellen Kersch Mike McMaster DISTRICT NO.2 Clark Lyda Shelley Pierre Davis 1999 Election Ordinance No. Page 1 of 3 Pages ee WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Georgetown has determined that this Ordinance must be passed on an emergency reading to allow the Councilmembers to take office in a timely manner, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN TEXAS, that: SECTION I. The City Council officially finds and determines that said election was duly called; that proper notice of said election was given in accordance with law; that said election was held in accordance with law; and that returns of the results of said election have been made and delivered, and that the City Council has canvassed said returns, all in accordance with the law and the Ordinance calling said election. Furthermore, said parties are hereby declared duly elected to said respective offices, subject to the taking of their oaths of office as provided for by the laws of the State of Texas and the Charter of the City of Georgetown, Texas, SECTION III It is further found and determined that in accordance with the order of this governing body, the City Secretary posted written notice of the date, place and subject of this meeting on the bulletin board 1999 Election Ordinance No. •.•- 2 of located outside of City Hall/Council Chambers, a place convenient and readily accessible to the general public, and said notice having been so posted and remaining posted continuously for at least 72 hours preceding the scheduled time of said meeting. A copy of the return of said posting shall be attached to the minutes of this meeting and shall be made a part thereof for all intents and purposes. SECTION IV. This Ordinance establishes an emergency due to the need for these Councilmembers to take office in a timely fashion and in accordance with the provisions of the Election Code of the State of Texas and the Charter of the City of Georgetown, and therefore this ordinance shall take effect immediately upon passage by a favorable vote of not less than a majority plus one of the Councilmembers qualified in serving.
