RELATING TO LONGEVITY PAY FOR EMPLOYEES OF
THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN* PROVIDING A
REPEALING CLAUSEAND - i
DECLARING• ' AND AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, as part of the Fiscal Year 2000/2001 Annual Operating Plan of the
City of Georgetown, the City Council allocated an additional $200,000 to be used for
employee benefits; and
WHEREAS, the City Council hereby finds it to be in the public's best interest to
revise the City's Personnel Policy concerning longevity pay as provided herein for
purposes of promoting employee retention and morale; and
WHEREAS, the caption of this ordinance was printed in the Williamson County
Sun on November 22, 2000, in compliance with the City Charter of the City of
Georgetown.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, THAT:
SECTION 1. The facts and recitations contained in the preamble of this
ordinance are hereby found and declared to be true and correct, and are incorporated
by reference herein and expressly made a part hereof, as if copied verbatim. The City
Council hereby finds that this ordinance implements the following element(s) of the
Century Plan Policy Plan and that the enactment of this ordinance is not inconsistent or
in conflict with any other Century Plan Policies, as required by Section 2.03 of the
Administrative Chapter the Policy Plan:
® Facilities and Services Focus End 13.02 — The City has a high level of employee
satisfaction and retention.
SECTION 2. Longevity Policy No. 350 of the City of Georgetown Personnel
Policies & Procedures dated December 1, 1997 is hereby amended as indicated on
Exhibit "A" attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference.
SECTION 3. All ordinances and resolutions, or parts of ordinances and
resolutions, in conflict with this Ordinance are hereby repealed, and are no longer of any
force and effect.

SECTION 4. If any provision of this ordinance or application thereof to any
person or circumstance, shall be held invalid, such invalidity shall not affect the other
provisions, or application thereof, of this ordinance which can be given effect without the
invalid provision or application, and to this end the provisions of this ordinance are
hereby declared to be severable.
SECTION 5. Longevity Pay has traditionally been distributed to City employees
at the annual Employee Recognition Luncheon. This year's luncheon is scheduled for
December 8, 2000. Due to the approaching date of the luncheon and in order to
prevent a delay in distribution of the increased longevity pay beyond the luncheon date,
the City Council finds it in the best interest of the public to declare the passage of this
ordinance an emergency.
SECTION 6. The Mayor is hereby authorized to sign this ordinance and the City
Secretary to attest. This Ordinance shall become effective and be in full force and
effect immediately upon its passage in accordance with the provisions of the Charter of
the City of Georgetown.

Personnel Policies and Procedures
LONGEVITY
I. PURPOSE
To recognize employee's knowledge of practices, policies, procedures, and work
standards specific to the City acquired through years of continuous loyal service.
11. SCOPE 1 11 1.
This policy applies to all regular employees.
I11. POLICY
All full time employees with one or more years of service are eligible for longevity pay as
funded by budget. Longevity will be computed by multiplying the number of-av -ye
of service completed on December 31 st of each year &4welv&, times the monthly
longevity rate accrued. The monthly longevity rate is determined by the schedule below,
and is based upon the whole years of service an employee will complete any time during
the calendar year. A "whole year of service" is any full calendar year following the last
work day of the prior calendar year which the employee was employed by the City.

Monthiv Lonaevity Rate
The maximum years of service used to compute longevity is twenty-eight.
Upon termination, an employee will receive a pro -rated longevity payment based on the
number of months employed in that calendar year.
Part-time employees earn longevity pay on a pro -rated basis,
