HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 2000-37 - Street NameAN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, CLARIFYING AMBIGUITIES IN CERTAIN STREET NAMES; ASSIGNING STREET NAMES TO CERTAIN FORMER COUNTY ROADS; ASSIGNING SPECIFIC NAMES TO EXISTING PARK ROADS; REPEALING CONFLICTING ORDINANCES AND RESOLUTIONS; INCLUDING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; AND ESTABLISHING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, on May 9, 2000, the City of Georgetown ("City") adopted an ordinance establishing a uniform addressing and street naming policy for the City; and WHEREAS, a number of rights-of-way within the City bear names which are inconsistent with this new policy; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Georgetown finds that it is in the public's best interest to resolve these discrepancies by assigning names to the subject rights-of-- way in a manner consistent with the City's street naming policy. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, THAT: SECTION 1. The facts and recitations contained in the preamble of this ordinance are hereby found and declared to be true and correct, and are incorporated by reference herein and expressly made a part hereof, as if copied verbatim. The City Council hereby finds that this ordinance implements the Transportation Element of the Century Plan - Policy Plan Element, which states: "Georgetown's transportation system provides for the safe and efficient movement of traffic, promotes the economic interests of the community, and adequately serves the needs of individuals"; and further finds that the enactment of this ordinance is not inconsistent or in conflict with any other Century Plan Policies, as required by Section 2.03 of the Administrative Chapter of the Policy Plan. SECTION 2. The City Council of the City of Georgetown hereby: a, assigns the name "NE Inner Loop" to the entire portion of County Road 193 lying within the corporate limits of the City of Georgetown; b. renames Georgetown Inner Loop from County Road 151 to Lakeway Drive to "NE Inner Loop"; C. renames Georgetown Inner Loop from East University Avenue (State Highway 29 East) to FM 971 to "NE Inner Loop"; d. renames Inner Loop Road from South Austin Avenue to East University Avenue (State Highway 29 East) to "SE Inner Loop"; Ordinance No. 0? 000 .3 Changes to Street Names Page 1 of 2 e. assigns the name "Smith Creek Road" to the entire portion of County Road 188 lying within the corporate limits of the City of Georgetown from East 8th Street to East University Avenue (State Highway 29 East); f. assigns the name "Lower Park Road" to the entire portion of an existing road from the 300 block of East Morrow Street east approximately 1500 feet to a dead end and from the 500 block of East Morrow Street west approximately 1000 feet to a dead end; and g. assigns the name "Blue Hole Park Road" to the entire portion of an existing road from the 100 block of South Rock Street 200 block of Scenic Drive, SECTION 3. All ordinances and resolutions, or parts of ordinances and resolutions, in conflict with this Ordinance are hereby repealed, and are no longer of any force and effect. SECTION 4. If any provision of this ordinance or application thereof to any person or circumstance, shall be held invalid, such invalidity shall not affect the other provisions, or application thereof, of this ordinance which can be given effect without the invalid provision or application, and to this end the provisions of this ordinance are hereby declared to be severable. SECTION 5, The Mayor is hereby authorized to sign this ordinance and the City Secretary to attest. This ordinance shall become effective and be in full force and effect in (10) ten days on and after publication in accordance with the provisions of the Charter of the City of Georgetown.
