AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, AMENDING SECTION 10.12.090 OF THE CODE
OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS,
ESTABLISHING A SCHOOL SPEED ZONE ON SAN GABRIEL
BOULEVARD; REPEALING CONFLICTING ORDINANCES AND
RESOLUTIONS; AND ESTABLISHING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City has received a request from Mrs. Mac's Shining Stars School
(the "School") for designation of a school speed zone along the portion of San Gabriel
Boulevard adjacent to the school; and
WHEREAS, the School has generated a significant increase in vehicular traffic in
the area, especially during drop-off and pick-up times, causing concern for the safety of
both the children attending the School and residents of San Gabriel Heights Subdivision,
and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Georgetown, Texas, hereby finds it
necessary to reduce the speed limit on the portion of San Gabriel Boulevard adjacent to
Mrs. Mac's Shining Stars School to 20 miles per hour during the hours of 7:15 - 8:15 a.m.
and 5:00 - 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, THAT:
SECTION 1. The facts and recitations contained in the preamble of this ordinance
are hereby found and declared to be true and correct, and are incorporated by reference
herein and expressly made a part hereof, as if copied verbatim. The City Council hereby
finds that this ordinance implements Transportation Policy 1 of the Century Plan - Policy
Plan Element, which states: "The City will encourage a transportation system that provides
for the safe and efficient movement of traffic, promotes the economic interests of the
community, and adequately serves the personal needs of individuals", and further finds
that the enactment of this ordinance is not inconsistent or in conflict with any other Century
Plan Policies, as required by Section 2.03 of the Administrative Chapter of the Policy Plan.
SECTION 2, Chapter 10.12.090, B., of the Code of Ordinances of the City of
Georgetown, Texas is hereby amended to add the following as the next consecutive
numbered paragraph:
"10.12.090 All City Streets.
B. 20 Mile Per Hour Zones.
32. School Speed Zone. San Gabriel Boulevard.: Beginning 78 feet north of the
intersection of San Gabriel Boulevard and Leander Road (FM 2243) and continuing north

approximately 337 feet to a point 35 feet south of the intersection of San Gabriel Boulevard
and Spanish Oak Circle, a prima facie maximum speed limit of 20 miles per hour during
the hours of 7:15 a.m. until 8:15 a.m., and 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Monday through
Friday.
SECTION 3. All ordinances and resolutions, or parts of ordinances and resolutions,
in conflict with this Ordinance are hereby repealed, and are no longer of any force and
effect.
SECTION 4. The Mayor is hereby authorized to sign this ordinance and the City
Secretary to attest. This ordinance shall become effective and be in full force and effect
in (10) ten days on and after publication in accordance with the provisions of the Charter
of the City of Georgetown.
PASSED AND APPROVED on First Reading on the 8th day of February, 2000.
