HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 2001-35 - Renaming StreetsORDINANCE NO. 4001� AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS ("CITY"), RENAMING A PORTION OF WEST 23RD STREET TO "FM 1460" AND RENAMING A PORTION OF COUNTY ROAD 115 TO "SNEAD DRIVE"; REPEALING CONFLICTING ORDINANCES AND RESOLUTIONS; INCLUDING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; AND ESTABLISHING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, on May 9, 2000, the City adopted an ordinance establishing a uniform addressing and street naming policy for the City; and WHEREAS, due to the construction/extension of FM 1460 and of County Road 115, the continued use of the names "West 23`d Street" and "CR 115" is inconsistent with the City's street naming policy; WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Georgetown finds that it is in the public's best interest to resolve these inconsistencies by assigning names to the subject streets in a manner consistent with the City's street naming policy. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, SECTION 1. The facts and recitations contained in the preamble of this ordinance are hereby found and declared to be true and correct, and are incorporated by reference herein and expressly made a part hereof, as if copied verbatim. The City Council hereby finds that this ordinance implements the Transportation Element of the Century Plan - Policy Plan Element, which states: "Georgetown's transportation system provides for the safe and efficient movement of traffic, promotes the economic interests of the community, and adequately serves the needs of individuals"; and further finds that the enactment of this ordinance is not inconsistent or in conflict with any other Century Plan Policies, as required by Section 2.03 of the Administrative Chapter of the Policy Plan. SECTION 2. The City Council of the City of Georgetown hereby: a. renames West 23d Street from South Austin Avenue to Highland Drive to "FM 1460"; and b. assigns the name "Snead Drive" to the entire portion of County Road 115 lying within the corporate limits of the City of Georgetown. SECTION 3. All ordinances and resolutions, or parts of ordinances and resolutions, in conflict with this Ordinance are hereby repealed, and are no longer of any force and effect. If any provision of this ordinance or application thereof to any person or circumstance, shall be held invalid, such invalidity shall not affect the other provisions, or application thereof, of this ordinance which can be given effect without the invalid provision or application, and to this end the provisions of this ordinance are hereby declared to be severable. SECTION 5. The Mayor is hereby authorized to sign this ordinance and the City Secretary to attest. This ordinance shall become effective and be in full force and effect in (10) ten days on and after publication in accordance with the provisions of the Charter of the City of Georgetown.
