HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 2002-02 - Speed LimitsORDINANCE NO...-400d� 00 WHEREAS, due to pedestrian and vehicular movements along short confined streets in the vicinity of Pt' Street and Bridge Street near a City park and a community center, the City Council of the City of Georgetown, Texas, deems it necessary and proper to amend Section 10.12.090, B., of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Georgetown, Texas, entitled "20 Mile Per Hour Zones", to reduce the speed limit on Montgomery, Rucker, Bridge, 7 1 8'j' 9th and 10`n Streets west of Scenic Drive from 30 miles per hour to 20 miles per hour; and WHEREAS, the Council finds that it is necessary and proper and in the best interest of the citizens of Georgetown to adopt the changes hereinafter set forth. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, that: SECTION 1. The facts and recitations contained in the preamble of this ordinance are hereby found and declared to be true and correct, and are incorporated by reference herein and expressly made a part hereof, as if copied verbatim. The City Council hereby finds that this ordinance implements Transportation Policy 10.00 of the Century Plan — Policy Plan Element, which states: "Citizens and commercial goods move safely and efficiently throughout all parts of the City"; and further finds that the enactment of this ordinance is not inconsistent or in conflict with any other Century Plan Policies, as required by Section 2.03 of the Administrative Chapter of the Policy Plan. SECTION 2. Section 10.12.090, B., of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Georgetown, Texas, entitled "20 Mile Per Hour Zones", is hereby amended to add the following as the next consecutively numbered paragraphs: 7`n Street: Beginning at the west right-of-way line of Montgomery Street and continuing west to its intersection with Bridge Street. 8t' Street: Beginning at the west right-of4ay line of Scenic Drive continuing west to its intersection with Rucker Street. 9th and 10th Streets: Beginning at the west right-of-way line of Scenic Drive continuing west to their intersections with Bridge Street, Ordinance No. 0?0047'" 0 Amendment to Traffic Ordinance — 7`" 8'"v 9'" 1 Q`h Montgomery, Rucker and Bridge Streets Speed Limit Reduction Page 1 of 2 Montgomery Street: Beginning at the north right-of-way line of 8t' Street continuing north to its intersection with 7t' Street, Rucker Street: Beginning at the north right-cf way line of 8t' Street continuing north to its dead end just north of 7t' Street, Bridge Street: Beginning at its intersection with 10th Street continuing north to its intersection with 7"' Street." SECTION 3. This ordinance shall be and is hereby declared to be cumulative of all other ordinances of the City of Georgetown, and this ordinance shall not operate to repeal or affect any of such other ordinances, except insofar as the provisions thereof might be inconsistent or in conflict with the provisions of this ordinance, in which event such conflicting provisions, if any in such other ordinance or ordinances are hereby superseded. SECTION 4. If any provision of this ordinance or application thereof to any person or circumstance, shall be held invalid, such invalidity shall not affect the other provisions, or application thereof, of this ordinance which can be given effect without the invalid provision or application, and to this end the provisions of this ordinance are hereby declared to be severable. SECTION 5. The Mayor is hereby authorized to sign this ordinance and the City Secretary to attest. This Ordinance shall become effective and be in full force and effect ten (10) days on and after publication in accordance with the provisions of the Charter of the City of Georgetown.
