Carls, City Attorney; Sandra D. Lee, City Secretary; Keith Hutchinson, Public Information Officer A Consideration of appointment of a canvassing team of councilmembers to canvass the results of the May 7, 2005 General/Special Election — Mayor Gary Nelon Mayor Nelon appointed Patty Eason and Doug Smith to serve as the Canvassing Team. Eason and Smith left the dais. Upon return to the dais, Smith read the following results, confirming that the Official Tabulation correctly shows the same figures as provided in the Media Reports from the Tabulating Machine used by the County to count the votes: General Election Mayor Gary Nelon 1966 Councilmember District 2 Clare Easley 132 Gabe Sansing 175 Councilmember District 6 Farley Snell 82 Special Election Proposition 1 (passed) For: 1321 Against: 1151 Proposition 2 (failed) For: 996 Against: 1417 Proposition 3 (failed) For: 714 Against: 1684 Proposition 4 (failed) For: 1139 Against: 1280 B Consideration and possible action to approve a resolution canvassing the votes for the May 73 2005 General/Special Election, declaring the results to be official — Sandra D. Lee, City Secretary and Patricia E. Carls, City Attorney Special City Council Meeting Minutes/May 17, 2005 Page 1 of 2 Pages Carls explained that the resolution contains results as previously read into the record by Smith. Motion by Carr, second by Oliver to approve the resolution. Approved 6-0. (Kirby absent) C Swearing in of Mayor Gary Nelon and Councilmembers Gabe Sansing of District 2 and Farley Snell of District 6 — Sandra D. Lee, City Secretary Mayor Nelon was joined by his family and sworn to office by District Judge Ken Anderson. Councilmember Gabe Sansiing was also sworn to office by District Judge Anderson. Councilmember Farley Snell was sworn to office by City Secretary Sandra Lee. D Comments from Mayor Nelon and Councilmembers Councilmembers Gabe Sansing of District 2 and Farley Snell of District 6 — Sandra D. Lee, City Secretary Sansing thanked his supporters and said he works for the entire city, not just his district. He said he is proud of what has been done and is looking forward to what will be accomplished by this City Council. Snell expressed appreciation for staff and the Council, noted the good work having been done by this City Council and predicted more good production in the next three years. Nelon thanked the Council and remarked that being on the Council is hard work. He noted that decisions made by the Council don't please everyone all the time, but the Council votes their conscience. He reminded the audience that the Mayor only votes to break ties and said that he holds the record of five ties broken in the last three years. He said the good work from the Council is cumulative of good work done by all the previous councils. He noted that Georgetown is blessed by being a growing area with a low tax rate and good economic growth. He said the budget cycle that is beginning for this year is a high priority with this Council. He also made a public announcement that he does not plan to run for a third term as Mayor. E Comments from current Mayor Pro Tem, Doug Smith Smith declined to comment. F Consideration of election from the dais of a Mayor Pro Tem — Mayor Gary Nelon Motion by Snell, second by Carr to nominate Doug Smith to continue as Mayor Pro Tem. He complimented Smith for his previous service as Mayor Pro Tem. Sansing said he would like the Council to consider term limits for the position of Mayor Pro Tem. Brandenburg offered to place an item for that consideration on the next Council Agenda. Vote on the motion: Approved 6-0. (Kirby absent) G Swearing in of Mayor Pro Tem — Sandra D.
