A Williamson County Conservation (Karst) Foundation Update
Alan Glenn, Attorney for the Conservation Foundation, introduced Connie Watson, Williamson County
Public Information Officer, and his colleague, David Hartman. Hartman gave a slide presentation on the
highlights of the Regional Habitat Conservation Plan, saying they are grateful for a $1 million grant from the
federal government and there is a $335,000 required local match. He thanked Council for providing seed
money that will assist in getting the plan developed and implemented. He noted that Williamson County
contains five endangered species and 17+ rare animal/plant species. He said that the Board was
appointed by the Williamson County Commissioners and noted Georgetown Councilmember Patty Eason is
a member of the Board. He spoke about the benefits of the process, including that the process honors
good land stewardship and voluntary, incentive/economic-based approaches to conservation. There were
questions from the Council. Snell confirmed that the implementation of this plan will be of great assistance
to private and government developers. Eason noted the favorable support from state and federal
government officials.
