Lee, City Secretary Jim Briggs, Dir. of Community Owned Utilities Council Absent: Mayor Leo Wood Charles Burson Shelley Davis Regular Session - called to order at 8:08 a.m. Public Hearin A A public hearing seeking comments or ideas to use Community Development Block Grant funds for economic development -- Bob Hart Hart read information explaining the community development program, explaining that the purpose is to improve economic development, provide jobs for citizens of low to moderate income. Tonn asked for public comment. Approved 5-0 F Mayor, Council, City Manager, and staff comments and reports ® Chatsworth Products Groundbreaking - Thursday, October 17, at 10:00 a.m. Hart noted that the groundbreaking will be at 10:30 a.m. Hart reminded Council of the Redesign Lunch to be held in San Gabriel Park on Wednesday, October 16 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. H Declaration of a public need and Council consideration and approval of an emergency construction contract in an amount not to exceed $898,000, between the City of Georgetown and C.D.M. Engineers and Constructors, Inc. to expand the Lake Water Treatment Plant -- Jim Briggs and Marianne Banks Briggs explained that for the last eight months the staff has been working with C.D.M. to answer questions about water quality from the Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission (TNRCC). He said the answers were submitted to TNRCC and approval was received to proceed to modify the existing water treatment plant. He noted that use projections are higher than were expected, and the plant is presently peaking at four times average. Briggs said he was notified by TNRCC that expansion is needed. He noted that time schedules were considered, and for a guaranteed date of May 15, and guaranteed price not to exceed $898,000, a contract must be started as soon as possible. Briggs said the proposed expansion will take care of the water supply for the next two summers, putting off the expense of several million dollars. Motion by Hoyt, second by Vincent to approve the emergency construction contract. Approved 5-0. I Consideration of a resolution of support for the location in Georgetown of Power Computing Corporation, and authorizing the staff to negotiate an economic development agreement -- Bob Hart Hart read the resolution. Arroyos welcomed Power Computing and thanked the City staff for their efforts. Motion by Arroyos, second by Vincent to approve the resolution. Approved 5-0 Vincent thanked Bruce Barton and the Georgetown Industrial Foundation for bringing Power Computing to Georgetown. Bain thanked everybody in advance for all the work they have left to do.
