H Declaration of a public need and Council consideration and approval of an emergency
construction contract in an amount not to exceed $898,000, between the City of Georgetown
and C.D.M. Engineers and Constructors, Inc. to expand the Lake Water Treatment Plant --
Jim Briggs and Marianne Banks
Briggs explained that for the last eight months the staff has been working with C.D.M. to
answer questions about water quality from the Texas Natural Resource Conservation
Commission (TNRCC). He said the answers were submitted to TNRCC and approval was
received to proceed to modify the existing water treatment plant. He noted that use
projections are higher than were expected, and the plant is presently peaking at four times
average. Briggs said he was notified by TNRCC that expansion is needed. He noted that
time schedules were considered, and for a guaranteed date of May 15, and guaranteed price
not to exceed $898,000, a contract must be started as soon as possible. Briggs said the
proposed expansion will take care of the water supply for the next two summers, putting off
the expense of several million dollars.
Motion by Hoyt, second by Vincent to approve the emergency construction contract.
