Public Hearin
A Council to conduct a public hearing on the proposed tax rate increase
With overhead charts, Hart showed the Council how Georgetown's proposed property tax
of $0.37 compares to other area cities. Georgetown has the second -lowest in the area.
Cedar Park has the lowest tax rate of $0.345. Hart reminded Council that $0.37 was the tax
rate in 1987, but showed that because property values were higher, the City collected
$360,000 more in 1987 than will be collected this year. Hart also showed a comparison of
the sales tax, pointing out that the sales taxes in surrounding cities are '/2% to I% higher than
in Georgetown.
Wood recognized Mr. William Moore of 2903 Addie Lane. Moore claimed that the
Homestead Exemption was $22,000 instead of $15,000 as Hart's chart had shown. Rundell
said she had phoned the City of Round Rock to get that information and would follow up
to confirm.
Moore objected to the
proposed increases in
stormwater drainage and
sanitation, asked that
the City not increase
the property tax, and
also asked for a freeze on the property tax for

senior citizens. He asked Wood to consider increasing the Homestead Exemption for senior
citizens in Georgetown.
Wood thanked Moore and assured him that the Council is dedicated to approving only those
increases that are required to balance the budget.
