AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 10.16.075 TEMPORARY PARKING
RESTRICTIONS AND MODIFYING SECTION C OF THE CODE OF
ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN; ESTABLISHING
SPECIAL EVENT FIRE LANES ON THE WEST SIDE OF STREETS
RUNNING NORTH AND SOUTH BETWEEN MARTIN LUTHER KING JR.
STREET AND COLLEGE STREET AND THE NORTH SIDE OF STREETS
RUNNING EAST AND WEST BETWEEN UNIVERSITY AVENUE AND 2ND
STREET; DIRECTING THE TRAFFIC ENGINEER TO ERECT APPROPRIATE
SIGNS INDICATING SUCH ZONES; REPEALING CONFLICTING
ORDINANCES AND RESOLUTIONS; PROVIDING A SEVERABILITY
CLAUSE; PROVIDING FOR PUBLICATION AND SETTING AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
WHEREAS the amount of needed parking during Special events in the
downtown area has increased significantly; and
WHEREAS vehicles park on both sides of the streets causing extreme hardship
for fire, police and emergency vehicles access; and
WHEREAS this parking also creates hardship on residents and persons attending
the special events; and
WHEREAS it would be in the best interest of public safety to enforce temporary
parking restrictions on designated streets during downtown special events; and
WHEREAS fire lane designations will allow unlawfully parked vehicles to be
towed insuring the safety of the public; and
WHEREAS parking restrictions are designated by the posting of lawful signs on
which is printed "No Parking - Fire Lane - Tow Away Zone" prior to each event; and
WHEREAS the determination of the limits of the "No Parking" postings within
the list of named streets shall be determined by the City's Event Committee process
prior to each special event; and
WHEREAS the sign postings will be removed immediately following each
special event; and
WHEREAS, The Council now finds it necessary to make the following additions to the
Code of Ordinances;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, THAT:
Section 1. The meeting at which this ordinance was approved was in all things
conducted in compliance with the Texas Open Meetings Act, Texas Government Code, Chapter
551.
Section 2. The facts and recitations contained in the preamble of this ordinance are
hereby found and declared to be true and correct and are incorporated by reference herein and
expressly made a part hereof, as if copied verbatim.
Section 3. The following section of Chapter 10 of the Code of Ordinances is herein
amended as follows:
Sec. 10.16.075. - Temporary parking restrictions.
A. Election Day Parking. No person shall park a vehicle in the parking lot on the
northeast corner of the intersection of Main Street and Ninth Street, except when
such person is voting in the polling place located at the Fire Station on the
northwest corner of the intersection of Main Street and Ninth Street. Said parking
prohibition shall be in effect until 7:00 p.m. on Election Day. All such parking for
voters shall be limited to 30 minutes, unless such person has received written
authorization of the presiding election judge. The parking lot so restricted shall
be designated by the posting of a sign at each entrance on which is printed
"Parking for Voters Only By City Ordinance -30 Minute Limit— Violators fined
up to $200 and towed at owner's expense."
B. Election Day Fire Lane. No person shall park a vehicle on the south side of
Central Avenue from Williams Drive to Park Lane when such area is designated
by a sign on which is printed "No Parking —Fire Lane — Tow -Away Zone," on
any Election Day at which the Fire Station located on Central Avenue is used as a
polling place.
C. Special Event Fire Lanes. No person shall park a vehicle in any fire lane
designated by the posting of a sign on which is printed "No Parking —Fire
Lane — Tow -Away Zone," and being the portions of the following streets:
1. North side of Third, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh, Eighth, Ninth,
Tenth, and Eleventh Streets east of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and
west of College Street.

2. West side of Forest Street, Rock Street, Main Street, Church Street,
Myrtle Street, Elm Street, and Ash Street north of University Street and
south of Second Street.
D. All cars parked in violation of this section may be towed at the owner's
expense. Al! such persons who park in violation of this section shall be guilty of a
Class C misdemeanor and fined up to $200 per violation.
Section 4. If any provision of this ordinance or application thereof to any person or
circumstance, shall be held invalid, such invalidity shall not affect the other provisions, or
application thereof, of this ordinance which can be given effect without the invalid provision or
application, and to this end the provisions of this ordinance are hereby declared to be severable.
Section 5. The Mayor is hereby authorized to sign this ordinance and the City Secretary
to attest. This Ordinance shall become effective and be in full force and effect ten (10) days on
and after publication in accordance with the provisions of the Charter of the City of
Georgetown.
