The City Council of the City of Georgetown, Texas, met in a Workshop Session with the
Planning and Zoning Commission on the above date with Mayor Bill Connor presiding.
Councilmembers present: Jane Voltz, Bill Shelby, Mike McMaster
Councilmembers absent: Shorty Valdez, Winfred Bonner, Bob Schrawger, Ferd Torn
P&Z members present: John Kuhn, Susie Ramos, Robert Hoppe, Steve Bamsch, Jack
Woods, Doris Curl
Workshop Session - Call to Order 7:35 p.m.
Mayor Connor expressed a concern regarding requirements for impervious coverage in
areas designated for industrial -level development. The 50% requirement is seen as excessive by
industrial prospects considering locating in Georgetown. The Subdivision Regulations Committee
will be reviewing this.
Ed Barry led off on a discussion regarding the proposed sign regulations. He and various
P&Z members reviewed the nature of comments received thus far in the process. There have
been generally positive, constructive remarks along with some complaints that didn't suggest any
remedy.
The Council agreed to ask the Chamber of Commerce's Retail Council to participate by
aiding in the development of flow charts and educational materials which will accompany the
ordinance and be distributed to all interested parties. Both P&Z and Council expressed a desire
to include representation from all affected and interested groups, including the Heritage Society
and sign "consumers" --those who will be reading the signs. The Retail Council will be asked
to include members from these groups.
Commissioner Hoppe asked about Council and/or P&Z norms regarding communication
with applicants and individuals otherwise involved in P&Z actions. Informal communication
outside a public forum is alright, as long as the applicant understands that there will be no
personal preference given, and any comment made in private will be shared with the rest of the
Commission.
No action was taken.
Mayor Connor adjourned the meeting at approximately 8:25 a.m.
