A009�1(p WHEREAS, Section 61.001 of the Texas Government Code, amended by Acts 2007, 80th Legislature, Chapter 1378, specifies that jurors reporting to municipal courts are not entitled to reimbursement under that Section, but provides that a municipality may provide reimbursement for expenses to the person in an amount to be determined by the municipality; and WHEREAS, funds are expected to be available in the Municipal Court Contingency Fund and other funds for the payment of a jury fee; and WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that it is in the interest of public health, safety and welfare and the administration of justice that selected jurors serving for the Georgetown Municipal Court be reimbursed for expenses in an amount of $6.00 per day; GEORGETOWN,NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SECTION 1: That Section 4.46 of the City of Georgetown Code of Ordinances be amended to provide as follows: A person who is selected for jury service in the Georgetown Municipal Court in response to a summons from the Court is entitled to receive as reimbursement for travel and other expenses an amount: (1) equal to $6.00 per day for each day or fraction of each day the person is in attendance in court in response to the jury summons and discharges the person's duty for that day; SECTION 2: If any provision, section, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase of this ordinance, or the application of same to any person or set of circumstances for any reason is held to be unconstitutional, void or invalid or for any reason unenforceable, the validity of the remaining portions of this ordinance or the application thereby shall remain in effect, it being the intent of the City Council of the City of Georgetown, Texas in adopting this ordinance, that no portion Ordinance No. p Juror Reimbursement Fee for Municipal Court Page I of 2 thereof or provision contained herein shall become inoperative or fail by any reason of unconstitutionality or invalidity of any portion or provision. SECTION 3: The Mayor is hereby authorized to sign this ordinance and the City Secretary to attest. The caption of this ordinance shall be published in accordance with the provisions of the City Charter.
