Minutes
Council will individually consider and possibly take action on any or all of the following items:
A Public Hearing on the proposed 2011 Property Tax rate included in the 2011/12 Annual Budget -- Micki Rundell,
Chief Financial Officer
Rundell said this is the
second public hearing necessary
by state law
to require the tax rate. She said this is to
allow
the
public
creative ways to control the proposed tax rate increase. He
to voice
arguments in favor of the tax rate increase and why those are not necessarily valid. He said Council
will be voting on
their
comments and
concerns on
to cut
the
tax rate.
She
said
the
tax rate will
be $0.38750.
Public Hearing was opened at 6:00 PM
Speaker,
Byron
Raynie, said City Council is faced
with an 8.8% percent property tax increase. He spoke about
an article
in the
newspaper about coming up with
creative ways to control the proposed tax rate increase. He
explained
arguments in favor of the tax rate increase and why those are not necessarily valid. He said Council
will be voting on
this next Tuesday. He asked that
the Council members be creative before that vote and figure
out a way
to cut
that
increase
in
half.
Speaker, Akram Amani, said she moved to Georgetown years ago. She spoke about way the tax increase should
not happen. She said she understands the street taxes but added she has no children or grandchildren and
noted it is just one tax .... she said she has to sell her house now because she can not afford it. She said this is
her house, it's for sale and no one is looking at it. She continued to speak about the property tax on her property.
She said this is the reason she is here. She asked that they do not run people away from Georgetown.
