Re: Library Board Meeting of Aug.7, '90
Nancy Snead, MaryBeth Huba, Jean-Marie Mendez, and Peg Honeycut
were at the meeting. As there was not a quorum, no votes were
taken, and only an informal meeting was held.
Old business will have to be discussed at the next meeting, as
both issues required a vote. First, the minutes of the July 3,
'90 meeting had been mailed to all Board members. The other issue
concerned whether or not we would like pictures (and a brief
explanation of her life) of Mrs.Peavy to hang near the needlepoint
pictures. We may consider this if the picture is framed, etc. It
will be voted on at the next meeting.
Next we discussed Peg's monthly report. The wide angle lens has
been installed in the security camera. The shelving from
R.J.Shepherd has been held -up on board a ship in Houston; ships
have not been allowed to enter the harbor due to the oil spill.
Native Tree Farms has worked on our trees, and is trying a systsem
of constant dripping water to improve the trees growth. The
summer reading and the teen volunteer programs are completed. Liz
Taylor's class on hospitality stressed being informed about the
City in general, and treating patrons as "guests". Finally, it
was noted that fees collected in July were high, but that this is
normal for the summer.
There will be a regional meeting of the Texas conference on
libraries at Southwestern University (in Georgetown) on October
20, with Parker McCollough as a guest speaker from 9:40 a.m. to
10:00. Also, by September 10 we must appoint a lay representative
to CTLS. There are generally three meetings: two informational
meetings & one voting meeting. Additional data is available from
Nancy. Finally, Brenda will be attending the Summer Preview
Session in Bastrop.
