HomeMy WebLinkAboutMIN 11.16.2023 CC-RMinutes of the City Council City of Georgetown, Texas Thursday, November 16, 2023 The Georgetown City Council met on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at 5:30 PM at Council and Court Building, 510 W. 9th Street. The City of Georgetown is committed to compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This is a special meeting of the City Council to canvass the November 7, 2023, election results. The following Members were in attendance: Josh Schroeder, Shawn Hood, Kevin Pitts, Jake French, and Ron Garland Agenda Notice 1. Regular Session Mayor Schroeder called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. 1.a Resolution Canvassing November 7, 2023 Election Results Consideration and possible action to approve a Resolution canvassing the election returns of the May 7, 2023 Special Bond Election, declaring the results to be official -- Robyn Densmore, City Secretary Densmore presented the item and reviewed the item to canvass the election results for the November 7, 2023, Special Election. On this election the City had four items. Since the agenda was posted Densmore had received the final tally from the County. There were slight changes to the results — which were increased numbers in all categories — but they in no way impacted the overall outcome of the results. The final results from the County are as follows and they are the numbers that are in the resolution we have to be signed tonight: PROPOSITION A The issuance of $56,000,000 bonds by the City of Georgetown, Texas, for a City facility which includes a customer service center as well as other City services and the imposition of taxes sufficient to pay the principal of and interest on the bonds. Total Vote% FOR: 7,485 51.04% AGAINST: 7,179 48.96% PROPOSITION B The issuance of $49,000,000 bonds by the City of Georgetown, Texas, for park and recreational projects for renovation and expansion of the Georgetown Recreation Center on Austin Avenue and the imposition of taxes sufficient to pay the principal of and the interest on the bonds. Total Vote% FOR: 8,700 58.98% AGAINST: 6,050 41.02% PROPOSITION C The issuance of $15,000,000 bonds by the City of Georgetown, Texas, for animal shelter facilities to provide animal sheltering and control services to the City, which may include a joint arrangement with other local governmental entities to expand the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter and/or new or renovated City facilities and the imposition of taxes sufficient to pay the principal and interest on the bonds. Total Vote% FOR: 9,912 67.14% AGAINST: 4,851 32.86% PROPOSITION D The issuance of $10,000,000 bonds by the City of Georgetown, Texas, for a jointly owned YMCA recreation center operated by the YMCA of Central Texas, expected to be located at or near 6200 Williams Drive, Georgetown, Texas and the imposition of taxes sufficient to pay the principal of and interest on the bonds. Total Vote% FOR: 7,580 51.48% AGAINST: 7,145 48.52% Densmore provided Council with all with a breakdown that includes Early Voting by Mail, Early In -Person, and Election Day In -Person numbers. City Manager David Morgan noted staffs hard work on the bond election. Moved by Kevin Pitts; seconded by Shawn Hood to Approve as presented. Motion Approved: 4- 0 Voting For: Shawn Hood, Kevin Pitts, Jake French, and Ron Garland Voting Against: None Adjournment Mayor Schroeder adjourned the meeting at 5:35 p.m. Moved by Ron Garland; seconded by Jake French to Adjourn.
